As the Florida Gators continue to build out their future schedules, head coach Dan Mullen admitted Monday that the team has found it difficult to find Power Five teams willing to play in Gainesville, Florida. Just moments after Mullen made that statement, The Gainesville Sun‘s Pat Dooley reported that the Utah Utes are close to agreeing to a home-and-home series that would encompass the 2022-23 seasons.

Florida will host Utah at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in 2020 and travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2023.

The Utes are the fourth Power Five opponent that the Gators have added to their future schedules. Utah joins Colorado, Miami and Texas as those future opponents, and UF also recently signed a two-for-one deal with South Florida with one game in Tampa. Florida also recently extended its agreement to play Florida State annually.

Upcoming nonconference regular-season games

2019: vs. Miami (Orlando), vs. UT Martin, vs. Towson, vs. Florida State
2020: vs. Eastern Washington, vs. Southern Alabama, vs. New Mexico State, at Florida State
2021: vs. Samford, at South Florida, vs. Florida State
2022: vs. South Florida, vs. Utah, at Florida State
2023: vs. Charlotte, at Utah, vs. Florida State
2024: vs. Miami, at Florida State
2025: vs. South Florida, at Miami, vs. Florida State
2026: at Florida State
2027: vs. Florida State
2028: vs. Colorado, at Florida State
2029: at Colorado, vs. Florida State
2030: vs. Texas, at Florida State
2031: at Texas, vs. Florida State

Based on the current future schedule, the Gators would likely welcome Power Five teams to The Swamp in 2024 and 2026, while they would head on the road for such games in 2025 and 2027.

Florida is 1-0 all-time against Utah with a 38-29 win in Gainesville during a homecoming showdown in 1997. The Gators hired former head coach Urban Meyer from the Utes, where he led the program to an undefeated season in 2004.
