The No. 9 Florida Gators are blowing a sigh of relief late Saturday night after narrowly defeating the Kentucky Wildcats on the road, 29-21. After falling behind 21-10 with just under six minutes to go in the third quarter, Florida saw its leader — redshirt junior quarterback Feleipe Franks — knocked out of the game with a gruesome lower leg injury.

Franks would eventually be lost for the game — and 2019 season — with a dislocated ankle. The entire team went out onto the field to show support for their fallen quarterback as he was carted off the field.

Despite the terrible injury, there was still game left to be played, and a lot of work to do for the Gators, which were down 11.

Enter Franks’ classmate, backup quarterback Kyle Trask. Behind Trask, Florida battled back, scoring on his first possession under center, nabbing two interceptions and ultimately scoring 19 unanswered points thanks to a 35-yard missed Kentucky field goal with 54 seconds remaining and one fantastic play.

On third-and-6 at the Florida 24, Trask handed it to senior wide receiver Josh Hammond on a motion sweep, and he darted upfield and to the house for a 76-yard game-clinching touchdown run.

The Gators lost their leader in Franks but showed incredible resiliency in the face of a 21-10 deficit on the road to secure their first conference victory of the season and improve to 3-0.

Here’s how Gator Nation reacted.
