There may not be much for the average fan to get excited about with the No. 11 Florida Gators hosting the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks on Saturday — other than it being Florida’s home opener, of course — but the Gators are at least pulling out all the stops in order to remember the program’s most famous cheerleader, Mr. Two Bits George Edmondson.
In addition to having Edmondson’s family perform his iconic Mr. Two Bits cheer in the pregame, the Florida football team will be wearing a special sticker on its helmet to honor Edmondson. That sicker? An orange-and-blue stripped tie that resembles the one Edmondson wore along with his pale yellow shirt each week.
The Gators will also wear their traditional home uniforms on Saturday night — blue jerseys, white pants and orange helmets.
Ben Hill Griffin Stadium will be rocking on Saturday night as Florida takes the field for the first time since Nov. 17, 2018. And yes, for those wondering, the orange end zones are back.
