Florida Gators freshmen wide receiver James Robinson and linebacker Ventrell Miller were caught with marijuana in their on-campus dorm.

Citing a police report, First Coast News reports the University Police Department was called to the players’ room after a residential assistant smelled a “strong odor of burnt cannabis emanating in the air” after midnight on Monday.

Upon entering the room, officers saw a “cloud of smoke” and two bags of marijuana, per the report.

Miller was already suspended from Florida’s opener against Michigan as one of seven players who are being held from the game for an unspecified reason. Information obtained by OnlyGators.com suggests the punishments likely stem from an incident in which players allegedly misused student debit cards with scholarship funds provided to them by the school. The players allegedly purchased various electronics, sold them externally and then tried to claim the cards had been lost or stolen. No charges were filed against the players.

Robinson nearly did not make it into Florida due to academics and off-the-field concerns. He was caught with marijuana at a party while taking an official visit to Ohio State before National Signing Day that resulted in OSU pulling its scholarship offer. Head coach Jim McElwain fought to get Robinson accepted into the Gators’ program, and before Robinson has even played one game, issues are arising.

Florida beat writers, including Andrew Olson of Rivals, report that Robinson was practicing with the team on Wednesday. McElwain said in a statement released by the school that he is aware of the citation and it is being handled.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that redshirt senior running back Mark Thompson was cited for marijuana possession in April, his second such citation since joining the team. Junior WR Antonio Callaway had previously been found by police with marijuana in May.
