Florida Gators sophomore wide receiver Antonio Callaway has been away from the team for more than four months, and it’s been three since head coach Jim McElwain officially confirmed that Callaway and junior Treon Harris were suspended.

While there is no end necessarily in sight for Callaway’s suspension, a release from his attorney on Tuesday makes things seem they are headed in the right direction for the Gators’ premier playmaker, especially considering McElwain noted just last week that Callaway is not enrolled in Summer A classes.

“Antonio Callaway’s interim suspension has been modified so that he can attend class on campus at the University of Florida,” wrote attorney Huntley Johnson in a press release sent to OnlyGators.com. “The modification also allows him to make use of the facilities at The University.”

Johnson, who in early March called for Callaway’s suspension to end citing it had “no merit” and there was “no good reason why [the] investigation has not been closed,” further shared that he expects this to come to a conclusion sooner than later.

“We are working through the process that The University has in place to reach a final resolution in this matter,” he added.

Johnson told OnlyGators.com and other outlets in march that Callaway was suspended on an interim basis by the University of Florida on Jan. 27 for a Student Conduct Code violation as a reaction to “an incident which supposedly occurred in early December 2015.”

Florida spokesman Steve McClain confirmed to OnlyGators.com that Callaway is “allowed to use the athletic facilities, and he will be around the program,” as first shared with The Gainesville Sun.

No one has spoken on the behalf of Harris at the time of this story’s publication. Harris is serving his third suspension since joining the Florida football program.

Callaway broke out in a major way as a true freshman last season, leading Florida with 678 receiving yards and four touchdowns while also serving as a tremendous asset on special teams at punt returner. Harris took over for suspended QB Will Grier but failed to impress and may transfer his skills to wideout.

McElwain has declined to address Callaway’s status on a number of occasions, most recently refusing to answer when the last time was that he had even spoken to the player.
