Reports: Early enrollee TE Daniel Imatorbhebhe to transfer from Florida Gators

Just over five months after enrolling in school, Florida Gators freshman tight end Daniel Imatorbhebhe has decided to leave the team and pursue a transfer to another institution, according to multiple reports.

Scout.com first reported Tuesday that Imatorbhebhe was leaving the program, a move that sources told AlligatorArmy.com shortly thereafter is “basically official.”

Speaking at the SEC spring meetings on Tuesday, McElwain discussed the transfers of quarterback Josh Grady (in) and Skyler Mornhinweg (out) but told gathered reporters that no other Gators were leaving the team at the moment despite others having met with him to discuss the possibility.

The failure of Florida to recruit and get production out of the tight end position over the last few seasons has been well-documented, but some reasons for optimism were provided during the 2015 Orange & Blue Debut spring game.

Two of the Gators’ four leading receivers that Saturday were tight ends with sophomore DeAndre Goolsby (two receptions, 40 yards) and redshirt freshman C’yontai Lewis (four receptions, 54 yards, touchdown), each flashing while being used in a variety of formations.

Combined with redshirt senior Jake McGee, who did not participate in the spring game while recovering from a broken leg suffered during Florida’s season opener, the position looks to be stronger than it’s been in years.

Redshirt freshman Moral Stephens is also looking for playing time, and McElwain has said on more than one occasion that he is “excited about that group” as a whole.

“Our tight end group is young, but you’ve got some guys that are going to have a chance to be pretty good there and give us an opportunity,” the coach said in March.

Imatorbhebhe is the older brother of four-star wide receiver and former Florida target Josh Imatorbhebhe, who recently committed to USC over UF and other programs.
