The Florida Gators on Friday granted a transfer request from freshman wide receiver Javares McRoy, a four-star 2011 commitment who will leave the program immediately to join his brother with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, according to Rivals.

McRoy, who sat out the 2011 Orange & Blue Debut with what head coach Will Muschamp called a “medical procedure with his lung,” is a Lakeland, FL native who was originally committed to Texas Tech but switched allegiances on June 10. He was one of Florida’s seven early enrollees; the remaining commits enroll this summer.

Three-star commit Ja’Juan Story (Brooksville, FL) is the Gators’ only remaining receiver in their 2011 signing class. McRoy’s departure opens up an additional scholarship Florida can use for the 2012 recruiting cycle.

Too small for Muschamp? Or just wasn’t happy? Either way, good luck to you Javares. Opens a spot for another great talent in this upcoming class.

A shame he has to sit out a year still but that’s the way things are….

Yeah, the good thing is he didn’t burn any eligibility, so he can redshirt this year and still play 4 seasons if he wants. I’m guessing the kid got caught up in the quick sell and got homesick – missed his bro. No shame in that. Good luck, kid.

this kind of sucks, I’d be interested to know why, I hope he wasn’t forced out, I was excited about his speed and play-making ability, regardless of size.. best of luck to him at Texas Tech, hope he kills it there.

He got plenty of time to recover after surgery and get back to competition by transferring as he will be granted one more year. Also, sometimes people change after being sick or big surgery. That could have made him to rethink about future. Playing with his brother in the same team may feel more valuable to him than competing in a big time program. I think he made a good decision. Good luck to his health and future.

Florida will have a great shot at winning another BCS champ. over the next four years. If it was his call he will likely regret not having that chance.
