FOUR BITS: Yeguete, Masters, Lemmens, Strong

1 » The Gainesville Sun is reporting that 2010 power forward recruit Will Yeguete of Florida Air Academy will visit the Florida Gators this weekend. Yeguete – who is choosing between Florida, Indiana and Georgia Tech – would not the first to make the transition from FAA to UF; guard Walter Hodge did it just a few years ago.

2 » Day one of the 2010 Masters has come and gone, and two former Gators are already struggling. Both Brian Gay and Camilo Villegas finished their first round at 2-over par. Gay birdied four holes (2, 3, 7, 13), bogeyed four (6, 10, 12, 14) and double-bogeyed one (16) to finish with a score of 40 on the back nine. Villegas bogeyed three holes (3, 11, 13) and only earned one birdie (15), shooting a 37 out and in.

Two more BITS on Duke Lemmens and Charlie Strong…after the jump!

3 » One football player who has improved immensely this spring is senior defensive end Duke Lemmens. Speaking with The Sun, assistant head coach and defensive line coach Dan McCarney had nothing but good things to say about the player. “I know Duke Lemmens has been the most improved player on my defensive line,” McCarney said. “He’s always been a relentless guy, a good-effort guy. But he’s made more plays this spring than he probably has in his three-year career. He’s turned into a real guy. Justin Trattou was much better than Lemmens coming out of the Sugar Bowl. Not so fast any more. I’d have to flip a coin on those two kids. That’s how much he has improved. I couldn’t be more proud of him.”

4 » If you thought Louisville Cardinals head coach Charlie Strong had a (pardon the pun) strong following when he was with the Gators, hearing how his new players talk about him will make one believe he is already more beloved in Louisville – without his team even have played a down. “We all have a world of respect for him,” Cardinals defensive lineman Greg Scruggs said. “If you don’t have respect for someone who’s accomplished what he’s accomplished, then I honestly think something is wrong with you.” Strong is bringing hope to Louisville, and everyone around the program is confident he will succeed in returning the Cardinals to prominence in the Big East.

Will Yeguete isn’t a juco player. he hasn’t even graduated high school yet.

Charlie Strong will have many of the Gator nation pulling for Louisville. You never know but he could be our HBC some day.
