FOUR BITS: Tebow, prayer, Dungy, UAA donations

2 » Pro Football Talk reported that Tebow received from verbal harassment for asking his colleagues to pray before the Wonderlic exam at the 2010 NFL Scouting Combine. Tebow called the story’s author shortly after its posting to dispute the entire account. Now former Brigham Young Cougars QB Max Hall, who was in the session with Tebow, corroborates his denial. “Yeah, I heard about that report,” Hall told The Salt Lake Tribune. “It didn’t happen. I sat right next to Tim the whole time, and he didn’t say anything at all about praying. It’s totally not true. Not at all.”

3 » Former NFL head coach Tony Dungy is one analyst who has been squarely in Tebow’s corner since day one. Dungy spoke more about Tebow on Thursday to The Tampa Tribune. “Tim Tebow has to get into a situation where they are willing to build an offense around his strength, and that’s going to be something a little different,” Dungy said. “Quarterbacking is a lot more than throwing the ball accurately and arm strength. Quarterbacking is leading, its decision-making, it’s processing information and it’s handling pressure.”

4 » Though some critics lambaste the University of Florida for the high salaries it pays head football coach Urban Meyer and head basketball coach Billy Donovan, the University Athletic Association flies under the radar for the contributions it makes back to the school. The Orlando Sentinel reports that the UAA (which is self-governed and not on the UF payroll) is donating a record $6 million to the university for the second-straight year. The UAA, which contributed an average north of $2 million per year since 1990, tripled its donations due to an increase in revenue (television contracts, titles) and the school’s need for funding after budget cuts and layoffs.
