FOUR BITS: Debose, Lee, softball, tennis honors

1 » Having to sit out the 2009 season due to a hamstring injury, Florida Gators redshirt freshman wide receiver Andre Debose is on the road to recovery. Debose, who underwent surgery months ago, was last reported to be able to run in a pool on Jan. 3. Now, Jeremy Fowler of the Orlando Sentinel reports that Debose can now run on a treadmill at full speed and is not expected to need a second surgery as rumored. OGGOA reached out to Debose for an update on his injury, but he did not wish to speak about it. Though he will not be a full participant in spring practices next month, he will likely be able to workout in non-contact drills.

2 » Former Florida forward/center David Lee, in the middle of a career season with the New York Knicks, has been named as one of 27 players on the U.S. National Team. Lee will have an opportunity to compete for a roster spot in the 2010 World Championships and 2012 Olympic Games.

3 » The Southeastern Conference released its 2010 Preseason All-SEC softball team Wednesday, and four Gators have been honored on the squad. Florida led all programs with four of 12 total selections, including junior pitcher Stephanie Brombachter, senior outfielder Francesca Enea, junior utility player Kelsey Bruder and junior second baseman Aja Paculba. For Enea and Pachulba, this is the second consecutive year they have been named to the team.

4 » Women’s tennis players senior Marrit Boonstra and freshman Caroline Hitimana were named Player and Freshman of the Week, respectively, by the SEC on Wednesday. Both Boonstra and Hitimana went 4-0 in their respective matches last week.

Mr. Debose will thrill Gator Nation in 2010.

Any predictions on Debose being 100 % by fall or are we looking at 80-90%(or less). Not sure how long it takes to heal an injury this severe…

  3. Personally, I don’t expect him to play until the USF game.

Are there examples of similar injuries that might give us some insight as what to expect? Could this be a recurring issue?

  5. npgator says:

Debose will be nice to have but we should have plenty of playmakers next year.

  6. Drew 4 Orange and Blue says:

If he does get healthy and Brown is legit….you have to split carries between Debose, Rainey, Moody, Demps & Brown….we had better run the rock a bunch!!!

  7. Debose is more than “nice to have,” he is a playmaker. If healthy, he will contribute a ton next season.

Drew, he is a WR not a RB. While he may get the occasional touch behind the LOS, they aren’t going to use him running the ball as much as they did with Percy. What they did with Harvin was out of necessity more than anything else. Also, you left Gillislee off of your list. And the coaching staff is not going to split carries 4 or 5 ways…they barely split them three ways last year.

  8. Drew 4 Orange and Blue says:

Well last year it was really split 4 ways if you add Tebow in the mix……do you want to predict the RB ranking for next year?

  9. Tebow was not a running back and the Gators will not convert all of his “rushes” last year into RB touches, but I do see your point. I think a three-way split is the best you will get next year. Unless they decide to use Rainey the way they were planning to use James this year (more as a WR), in which case I could see Gillislee getting some more touches. Though Mack Brown will be the man in the future, I personally think he is going to have to wait and, more importantly, heal.
