REPORT: Tebow on cover of NCAA Football 11

January 18, 2010

Liz Mullen of Sports Business Journal reported Monday afternoon that former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow is close to a deal that would land him on the cover of EA Sports’ NCAA Football 11 video game.

Tebow, who recently hired Jimmy Sexton of Athletic Resource Management as his agent, would be the second Florida player to be featured on this game franchise’s cover. Heisman Trophy winning QB Danny Wuerffel was on the cover of NCAA Football 98, the first installment of the best-selling series.

Mullen spoke with EA Sports senior director of athlete relations Sandy Sandoval, who neither confirmed nor denied the report. Starting with NCAA Football 09, EA Sports began featuring different student-athletes on the game’s cover for each individual platform (PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Xbox360, Wii, etc.) It is unknown if Tebow would grace the 2011 game’s cover on one or every format.

  1. Percy almost made it on to one of the covers last year before the news regarding his extracurricular activities came out. I believe he was supposed to be on the 360 version and they added Crabtree at the last minute.

  2. I believe you are correct about that.

  3. Great site by the way. I’ve been a long-time reader and finally decided to comment. Great work on the updates.

  4. Thank you – I always see your comments on twitter. Put them on here from now on. 🙂

  5. Haha. Interesting point you bring up though. Twitter has definitely had an impact on comments. My little site barely gets any comments as it is, but even less over the last few months since I joined Twitter. Seems even some of the bigger sites are getting less comments than they used to. I know I do my best to try to get places and leave actual comments, but I doubt most people do anymore.

Hey, I want in on this love-fest. And don’t forget: I had this on TimTeblog.com back in July…

FWIW: I covered the EA 2010 event last year in NYC specifically to do a profile on Percy… whoops.

  7. Well Dan, I think you just made the assumption that most of us would have that he would be on the cover of 11. But props to you for putting it out there in print form – no doubt about it! Now get me a copy of the game! 🙂

Twitter is retarded. I don’t see the need to stalk people or have constant updates when someone is taking a dump and wants to let people know about it. I hope it goes under…the sooner the better.

  9. For something like following an individual or celebrity, I can see where you would have that opinion. And when I started tweeting, I did not like it much either. But it is growing on me. And it has done wonders for OGGOA.

  10. Matt Burris says:

Mr2Bits: I think you have a very myopic view of Twitter. While there are some that update about their mundane lives daily, others use it for a whole variety of purposes. Companies use it to let their consumers know what’s going on with their products. Websites use them to update people on the latest for their site. Stars use it to communicate with their fans. Family members stay in touch with each other. Book authors post quotes from their books. Geeks share links to exciting tech gadgets with each other. Sport fans follow their favorite stars. The list can go on and on.

Then again, if you took a chance to actually check it out, you’d know all this anyway. 🙂

  11. Mr2Bits says:

Matt : Thanks for your opinion however I respectfully disagree. I can agree it helps out certain businesses but it has also saturated a market that is already too saturated. Like I said, if I want to know whats going on with someone or something, I will hit the interwebs and dig it up. I don’t need that shit blasting my phone every 2 minutes when someone decides to say something retarded.

  12. Mark01 says:

    Well said Matt.

I’m always find it interesting when people root for things/people to fail. I think it tells a lot about someone’s perspective on the world and their own successes and failures in life.

  13. Mark01 says:

    Mr2Bits,

Since when is Twitter a mandatory service. If you don’t like it don’t use it and move on

  14. Folks, this is really something not worth the argument.

  15. Mr2Bits says:

Mark01 : Never said it was. Just said the concept is retarded and I get sick of hearing about it everywhere you go. Tweet’s this and tweets that. Can’t even turn on ESPN without hearing about somebodies retarded ass tweet. I will not say anything more on it as I am glad it has helped the small guy thrive but the concept irks me…that is all

    From Twitter:

onlygators OGGOA has officially hit single-day records in unique hits, page views & returning visitors w/ 7 hrs to go. You guys are the best. Thanks!!! about 2 hours ago

It will only continue to grow Mr. Silverstein.

    Love me some Twitter
