Four-star defensive tackle Shavar Manuel (Bradenton, FL), the No. 42 overall player in the Class of 2016, announced Tuesday that he has committed to the Florida Gators.

Manuel (6-foot-4, 290 pounds) chose Florida over Florida State, LSU and Alabama, among others after visiting the Gators twice this season, most recently on Nov. 28, 2015.

“After taking my time, listening to my heart and thinking things over, I would like to take the time to say I have officially committed to The University of Florida,” he wrote on Twitter.

Manuel is a big get for Florida with the program set to lose senior DT Jonathan Bullard to graduation. The prospect immediately becomes the Gators’ second-highest rated commitment behind four-star quarterback Feleipe Franks.

The Gators now have 26 players committed for 2016, 12 of which will enroll early for the spring semester. Florida is ranked No. 6 in the 247Sports Composite team rankings with nine four-star and 17 three-star pledges.
