FOUR BITS: Muschamp and Foley, Noah, Horschel

1 » Florida Gators athletic director Jeremy Foley took head coach Will Muschamp/s place during the weekly WCA Gator Hotline Show, which airs on Thursday evenings during football season. (In fact, Muschamp will only appear on the program five of the 12 times it airs in 2014.) Anyway, Foley answered a number of phone calls during the program, including one in particular from a voice that sounded oddly familiar. “Bill from Gainesville” jumped on the air to praise Foley for the job he was doing, suggesting that he should permanently sit in for Muschamp on the program. He then took a jab at Foley’s favorite team, the Boston Red Sox, before jumping off the air. With no attempt made to disguise his voice, “Bill from Gainesville” was quite obviously Muschamp himself having some fun with his boss. Check out the audio below.

Healthy Percy Harvin runs wild Thursday for Seahawks; Gators NFL depth chart

Hoping to play a full regular season for the first time since 2011, a healthy and rejuvenated Percy Harvin opened eyes on Thursday as a game-breaking wide receiver, ball-carrier and returner for the Seattle Seahawks, which hosted the Green Bay Packers in the 2014 NFL Kickoff game.

Helping Seattle trounce Green Bay 36-16, the former Florida Gators standout racked up 160 all-purpose yards for the Seahawks, 100 of which were from scrimmage. Harvin led his team in receiving with seven catches for 59 yards (including a 33-yard reception, his longest since Oct. 7, 2012) and finished second in rushing with four carries for 41 yards, adding 60 return yards on three kickoffs just for good measure.

Harvin’s game-breaking ability should be a boon for Seattle all season. The 2009 NFL Rookie of the Year is arguably the most electric player in the league, a characteristic many forgot but were reminded of last season when he opened the second half of Super Bowl XLVIII by bringing a kickoff back for a touchdown.

2 BITS: McDonald arrested; Patton, Demps signed

1 » San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Ray McDonald, a seven-year NFL veteran who just last week restructured his contract, was arrested early Sunday on suspicion of felony domestic violence. According to NBC Bay Area reporter Damian Trujillo, who broke the story on Twitter, the San Jose Police Department confirmed McDonald was arrested at approximately 2:45 a.m. when officers were called to a residence. Trujillo, citing sources, further reports that the alleged domestic violence victim is pregnant. This is the second time in his professional career that McDonald has been arrested for a felony; he was first popped for driving under the influence in 2010.

Three days ago, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced harsher penalties for players and league employees involved in domestic violence or sexual assault incidents. A six-game suspension will be handed down to first offenders with a second violation resulting in an indefinite suspension that could on appeal last at least one season but may potentially be a lifetime ban. McDonald will be the first player testing these rules, though it is not known when or how the league will choose to hand down these penalties. With Goodell and the league under so much scrutiny following the seemingly slap-on-a-wrist two-game suspension dealt to running back Ray Rice, there is more pressure than ever for the NFL to act swiftly in these situations.

2 » Wide receiver Solomon Patton and running back Jeff Demps were two of three former Florida Gators players cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday. Both players have since cleared waivers and will now be signed to the team’s practice squad, according to Tampa Tribune beat writer Roy Cummings. Safety Major Wright, also cut by the Bucs, was one of four other Gators that received their walking papers on Saturday. The others included offensive linemen Jon Halapio (New England) and Maurice Hurt (Washington) and defensive end Justin Trattou (Minnesota).
