FOUR BITS: Tebow, Parsons, Jackson, Easley

1 » Philadelphia Eagles vice president of player personnel Ed Marynowitz spoke with the media on Thursday and provided some perspective on the team’s decision to sign former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow to a one-year, non-guaranteed contract. “We worked him out and we saw improvement from the last time we saw him,” he said. “[We] had exposure to him live when we played New England when they practiced here. When we worked him out, we saw a great deal of improvement in him.” Ultimately, the Eagles decided “that it was an opportunity to bring in somebody who could compete for a spot,” and all indications are that Tebow will get that chance, a legitimate one at that – unlike some of his other stops..

2 » Forward Chandler Parsons, in his first year with the Dallas Mavericks, has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering what appears to be a serious right knee injury. Parsons, who was averaging 15.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 33.1 minutes per game for Dallas, was a full-season starter for the Mavericks and the team’s key free agent signing in the offseason. The Houston Rockets, Parsons’s former team, leads the Mavericks 2-0 in their first-round series. Fellow former Florida F Corey Brewer is averaging 15.0 points in 26.5 minutes per game for Houston thus far in the series. He’s shooting .500 from the field and .571 from beyond the arc.

Former Florida Gators QB Tim Tebow worked out for Philadelphia Eagles on Monday

Former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow spent Monday working out for the Philadelphia Eagles, ESPN.com‘s Adam Schefter reported.

Tebow, who did not play in the NFL last season after only being signed for training camp in 2013 by the New England Patriots, has spent much of the last 18 months in California being trained by quarterback guru Tom House.

According to Schefter, the Eagles do not plan on signing Tebow “at this time.”

It was rumored that Tebow would consider participating in the inaugural NFL Veterans’ Combine but that did not come to fruition.

The former Heisman Trophy winner’s accuracy has been his biggest issue at the professional level as he’s completed just 47.9 percent of his passes for an average of 6.7 yards per toss His 17-to-9 touchdown-to-interception ratio for his career is admirable, as are his 989 rushing yards on 197 carries (5.0 per attempt) with 12 rushing scores.

Top 14 for 2014: Florida Gators best moments of the year

For as bad as things went for the Florida Gators at times in 2014 (see the Not Top 14 for 2014), there were more than a fair share of bright spots. From breathtaking moments and game-winning plays to winning championships and setting records, the Gators had plenty to be proud of in 2014. Check out OnlyGators.com‘s Top 14 for 2014.

14 » RARE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL UPSET

Gators women’s basketball has struggled to find relevancy but there was no question Florida had its engines running on Jan. 5 when it pulled off one of the biggest victories in program history, an 83-73 upset win over No. 6 Kentucky. The win broke a six-game losing streak for UF against UK and was head coach Amanda Butler’s first win over a top-10 ranked opponent after going 0-17 previously in such games. Florida had lost 19-straight regular-season games against top 10-ranked opponents, earning its last victory to such a team in Feb. 2006.

13 » TEBOW TIME ALL THE TIME

Former Gators quarterback Tim Tebow had a life-changing 2014 after agreeing to sign a long-term broadcasting deal with ESPN. Tebow was featured on the network’s national title broadcast that season and was later assigned to the SEC Network where he served as one of three analysts for the channel’s Saturday pre-game show, SEC Nation. Tebow has drawn rave reviews throughout 2014 for his passionate opinions and consistent on-air knowledge. He also proved to be unbiased, lambasting the leadership on Florida’s offense when the team struggled during the middle of the season. One Tebow moment – a spot-on impersonation of former Gators head coach Steve Spurrier – was OnlyGators.com’s most-watched Vine with 1.3 million loops as of press time.

Tebow also closed 2014 with a brilliant on-air prediction, which you can check out below.
