Florida Gators 2015-16 exhibition: What to know, how to watch on TV, live stream online

Florida Gators basketball, which will begin the 2015-16 season unranked, will take the court for the first time under new head coach Mike White on Thursday night in an exhibition game against the Division II Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center in Gainesville, Florida.

The Gators have been looking forward to playing real basketball for quite some time, and following a “secret scrimmage” against Central Florida over the weekend, everyone is ready and raring to go for the contest. “It’s an exciting week to get started for the staff and I, but I’m sure a lot more exciting for our players, especially our seniors,” White said Wednesday. “It’s been a long preseason. We’ve put in a lot of time and work and energy. I know our guys have been chomping at the bit for probably more than 2-3 weeks now to play someone else.”

Here’s a look ahead at Thursday night’s exhibition game: what to know and how to watch Florida-Palm Beach Atlantic.

Florida 2015 signee G KeVaughn Allen sticks with commitment to Gators basketball

New Florida Gators head basketball coach Michael White has only been on the job a week but nevertheless managed his first signature win on Monday by ensuring 2015 four-star signee KeVaughn Allen (Little Rock, AR) will stick with his commitment and join the program ahead of next season.

Allen, a talented shooting guard rated as No. 60 in the 247Sports Composite and No. 51 overall on the ESPN 100, was Florida’s highest-ranked signee for next season but looked to be on the outs with the program after the departure of Billy Donovan.

Florida basketball signees Keith Stone, Kevarrius Hayes remain committed to Gators

Though the Florida Gators‘ 2015 signing class has been shaken by the departure of head coach Billy Donovan, it will only be split in half rather than completely lost.

Four-star forward signees Keith Stone (Deerfield Beach, FL) and Kevarrius Hayes (Live Oak, FL) on Wednesday reaffirmed their status as Gators signees as both players have decided not to ask for releases from their National Letters of Intent.

Florida signee Noah Dickerson requests release from National Letter of Intent

Rather than keep the Florida Gators’ 2015 signing class from falling apart, new head coach Michael White is now tasked with ensuring he does not lose it completely.

Late Tuesday night, four-star power forward signee Noah Dickerson (Montverde, FL) confirmed that he has officially asked to be released from his National Letter of Intent with Florida and will seek to begin his college basketball career elsewhere.

Mike White ‘not into begging’ but focused on retaining Florida Gators’ 2015 signees

Scouting, offensive installations, game planning, substitutions and timeouts … those will all come in due time for new Florida Gators head basketball coach Michael White, who during his official introduction on Monday had one more immediate and important task on his mind – retaining the strong four-member 2015 signing class recruited by his predecessor, Billy Donovan.

Guard KeVaughn Allen (North Little Rock, AR), small forward Keith Stone (Deerfield Beach, FL), power forward Noah Dickerson (Montverde, FL) and center Kevarrius Hayes (Live Oak, FL) – all four-star prospects – suddenly need to be re-recruited by White, who desperately needs to secure a re-commitment from each considering the state of the Gators’ roster.

Florida, which once needed to find two scholarships just to sign its 2015 class, wound up one below the NCAA maximum of 13 after three players with eligibility remaining departed in the offseason (to go along with one midseason transfer and one graduate). The Gators are now in danger of being seriously short on scholarship players in White’s first season … if he’s not able to retain the program’s signees.
