On Nov. 23, an Illinois insurance executive accused of filming former Florida Gators dazzler turned ESPN sideline reporter Erin Andrews nude in her hotel room on numerous occasions pleaded not guilty to charges of interstate stalking. Just weeks later, Michael David Barrett, 48, has agreed to plead guilty to the same charges in U.S. District Court on Tuesday, Dec. 15.

Barrett followed Andrews across the country over at least a period of nine months, calling numerous hotels in each of her stops to determine where she was staying. Federal agents say Barrett would check into a room next to her, alter the peephole device of her room and secretly shoot video of her before e-mailing it to a personal account. He shot and uploaded videos in at least three locations: Columbus, OH; Nashville, TN; and Milwaukee, WI.

An Illinois insurance executive accused of filming former Florida Gators dazzler turned ESPN sideline reporter Erin Andrews nude in her hotel room on numerous occasions pleaded not guilty to charges of interstate stalking in court on Monday.

Michael David Barrett, 48, allegedly followed Andrews across the country over at least a period of nine months, calling numerous hotels in each of her stops to determine where she was staying. Federal agents say Barrett would check into a room next to her, alter the peephole device of her room and secretly shoot video of her before e-mailing it to a personal account. He is accused of shooting and uploading videos in Columbus, OH; Nashville, TN; and Milwaukee, WI.

Barrett’s attorney David Willingham released the following statement last week:

Mr. Barrett would like to express his deep regret for the circumstances that have caused the issuance of charges against him today. It is his sincere hope that this matter can be resolved as soon as possible.

An interstate stalking conviction carries a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison and a fine of $250,000. Barrett is free after posting a $100,000 bond on Friday and is scheduled to return to court on Jan. 12.

In federal charging documents obtained by TMZ, Barrett allegedly followed Andrews around the country over at least a period of nine months, calling numerous hotels in each of her stops to determine where she was staying. Federal agents say Barrett would check into a room next to her, alter the peephole device of her room and secretly shoot video of her before e-mailing it to an account. TMZ received a statement from Barrett’s lawyer on Wednesday, which said:

Mr. Barrett would like to express his deep regret for the circumstances that have caused the issuance of charges against him today. It is his sincere hope that this matter can be resolved as soon as possible.

An interstate stalking conviction carries a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison and a fine of $250,000. Considering Andrews’ celebrity and the fact that Barrett tried to sell these videos, one would not expect the courts to go light on his sentencing.

For the first time in his career, Florida Gators head coach Urban Meyer will play a game against one of his former assistants who has taken a head coaching job for another team. For the first time in his career, Mississippi State Bulldogs head coach Dan Mullen will play a game against the man he had coached under for nine seasons – from 1999 until 2008.

While Mullen’s Bulldogs are not up to the talent level of Meyer’s Gators, the former coach’s familiarity with his old offense could prove an equalizer come Saturday night. Meyer has already expressed his concern regarding Mullen’s knowledge of his schemes, players and signals.

“Some things are very alarming that we are going to cover in great detail today or tomorrow,” Meyer told reporters Monday during his weekly press conference. His opponent does not think it is that big of a deal. “Even though we know them, I don’t think it’s a huge advantage,” Mullen said.

What Mullen does think is a big deal is the high-profile game against the No. 1-ranked team in the country. “This is the game of the year in Mississippi,” he said. “When [former Gators dazzler and ESPN sideline reporter] Erin Andrews shows up on your campus to cover a game, I guess you’re playing the big game of the week.”

The Associated Press is reporting that Michael David Barrett, an Illinois insurance executive accused of taping nude videos of former Florida Gators dazzler turned ESPN sideline reporter Erin Andrews in her hotel room, was released on $4,500 bond Wednesday while he awaits a court date on Oct. 23.

Barrett, 47, faces federal charges of interstate stalking, and prosecutors believe he secretly taped and uploaded videos of other nude women to the Internet in addition to those of Andrews. Now wearing an ankle monitoring bracelet, adhering to a strict curfew and banned from using the Internet, Barrett reportedly made these videos by “modifying peepholes in hotel room doors using a hacksaw and a cell phone camera.”

Court records show that Andrews appears nude in at least eight of Barrett’s videos, which he was planning to sell to TMZ for profit. Interstate stalking carries a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison and a fine of $250,000.

The Associated Press is reporting that a man has been arrested who is accused of taping nude videos of former Florida Gators dazzler turned ESPN sideline reporter Erin Andrews.

Michael David Barrett was arrested Friday night and was schedule to appear in federal court late Saturday morning according to the FBI. He faces federal charges of interstate stalking for taking the videos of Andrews through an altered peephole, attempting to sell them to TMZ and posting them online, the FBI said in a statement.

FBI agents said Barrett taped eight videos in total, with seven of the eight taken through a modified door peephole at a hotel room in Nashville, TN, in September 2008.

Andrews thanked the FBI agents and law enforcement for their work in bringing this case to a close and promised to file civil lawsuits against Barrett and anyone who publishes the material.

“For my part, I will make every effort to strengthen the laws on a State and Federal level to better protect victims of criminal stalking,” she said in a statement early Saturday.
