4 BITS: Florida Gators to honor Ray Graves with helmet decal, Bill Carr as Mr. Two Bits

1 » The Florida Gators announced Tuesday that Ray Graves, a former head football coach and athletic director at the school who passed away in April at the age of 96, will be honored with a decal on the team’s helmets this season. The decal reads “RG: The Bull Gator,” referring to Graves’s nickname while he was coach of the Gators from 1960-69; he led Florida to a 70-3-4 (38-19-3 SEC) record with a 4-1 mark in bowl games and four top-20 national finishes. Silver Lining for May 20: Updates on Florida Gators in the NFL; farewell to David Letterman

Get them to sign on the line which is dotted

Three weeks have passed since the 2015 NFL Draft and Florida Gators have spent the time signing rich contracts to play professional football.

The most notable deal struck to this point was that between No. 3 overall pick Dante Fowler Jr. and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Despite the defensive end suffering a season-ending torn ACL in his very first NFL practice and signing an injury waiver, the Jaguars did not force offset language into his contract and still inked him to a four-year, $23.5 million fully-guaranteed deal with a $15.3 million signing bonus. Fowler will bring home $4.27 million this season without stepping foot on the field.

Urban Meyer on Tim Tebow: Media attention curbed NFL interest, opportunities

During a radio interview two years ago, Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer propped up Tim Tebow‘s future as an NFL quarterback, noting that he still thought Tebow would go out and “win a Super Bowl” before his time was up.

That was when Tebow was on the outs with the New York Jets. Since then, despite getting a training camp invitation with the New England Patriots that offseason, Tebow has not seen the field during an NFL regular season game.

On Tuesday, Meyer appeared on The Dan Patrick Show and was asked about the future of his Heisman Trophy winner with the Florida Gators. Suffice to say, Meyer still fully believes in Tebow’s chances to succeed in the NFL but explained that due to circumstances beyond his control, he has not had the same opportunities as others.

Former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow to sign with Philadelphia Eagles

Former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow will sign a contract with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, according to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports.

According to Glazer, the “Eagles [are] looking for a fourth [quarterback] for their offseason program, but it’s Tebow’s best chance to get back in the league.” Furthermore, Philadelphia is “convinced [Tebow has] improved a lot” after discussing his development with quarterback guru Tom House.

FOUR BITS: Bonner, Tebow, Noah, Wambach

1 » During an NBA game on Friday, former Florida Gators forward Matt Bonner received an uppercut to the groin courtesy of Boston’s Marcus Smart, who was ejected from the game and subsequently suspended one game by the league. Smart claimed it was unintentional and “just a freak accident,” noting that Bonner likely would’ve gone after him had he thought it to be intentional. Bonner, a 10-year veteran who is averaging 4.0 points and 1.6 boards for the San Antonio Spurs, has yet to discuss the incident.

Former Florida Gators QB Tim Tebow worked out for Philadelphia Eagles on Monday

Former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow spent Monday working out for the Philadelphia Eagles, ESPN.com‘s Adam Schefter reported.

Tebow, who did not play in the NFL last season after only being signed for training camp in 2013 by the New England Patriots, has spent much of the last 18 months in California being trained by quarterback guru Tom House.

According to Schefter, the Eagles do not plan on signing Tebow “at this time.”

It was rumored that Tebow would consider participating in the inaugural NFL Veterans’ Combine but that did not come to fruition.

The former Heisman Trophy winner’s accuracy has been his biggest issue at the professional level as he’s completed just 47.9 percent of his passes for an average of 6.7 yards per toss His 17-to-9 touchdown-to-interception ratio for his career is admirable, as are his 989 rushing yards on 197 carries (5.0 per attempt) with 12 rushing scores.
