Wondy Pierre-Louis wanted by Gainesville police

Former Florida Gators cornerback Wondy Pierre-Louis is being sought by Gainesville, FL, police on five felony charges after allegedly choking his girlfriend of three years early Sunday morning. Police say Pierre-Louis kicked down his girlfriend’s apartment door to find her in bed with another man.

The situation would escalate from there, and Pierre-Louis is now facing charges of domestic battery by strangulation, burglary, simple battery, false imprisonment and hindering/delaying communication to law enforcement.

WCJB-TV is reporting that Pierre-Louis trapped his girlfriend in the bathroom and choked her against a countertop while saying, “I could kill you.” The victim claims she attempted to run away and call 911 but was pushed onto the bed, where Pierre-Louis allegedly took off his shirt and began strangling her. He said that using the shirt “would prevent him from leaving finger prints,” according to the police report.

“This is a case that could have been easily much worse for our victim,” Lt. Keith Kameg told WCJB-TV. “She was able to do everything right, get away, protect herself and I’m happy to report she sustained no serious injuries.”

UPDATED: The Southwest Florida News-Press spoke with Pierre-Louis, who basically denied the incident took place as described in the police report. “My attorney doesn’t want me to talk,” he said. “It’s all a lie. We’ll go through a process to prove it’s a lie.”

Pierre-Louis, a native of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, has had a tumultuous week after a major earthquake ravaged his homeland. Luckily, most of his family survived the disaster.

UPDATE: Pierre-Louis surrenders to police Tuesday

A portion of the Gainesville Police Department’s report is available after the jump!

McCray: I was speeding and “driving with pizza”

OGGOA has heard athletes make a lot of excuses in our day, but this one is literally a slice of hilarity.

New Orleans Saints defensive end Bobby McCray was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with four of counts including driving while intoxicated. Handcuffed after refusing to take a breath alcohol test during a traffic stop for speeding, McCray was booked into Orleans Parish Prison and released on his own recognizance. McCray, a two-time All-SEC second-team selection who played in 36 games while with the Florida Gators from 2001-04, claims he was arrested under false pretenses and was actually “driving with pizza.”

“Trying to deal with this bogus charge of DWP…driving with pizza,” McCray said via his twitter account (@bobbymccray) Wednesday morning. “My fiance was feeding me pizza [while I was] driving home. [The police officer] pulled me [over] for doing 80 in a 60. He got upset because I asked him why did I need to get out of the car on a routine traffic stop. He started ranting and raving, saying I think I know it all and threw me in cuffs. I had cuffs on me in three minutes. This was a short guy with [a] Napoleon complex. Lawyers mount up – we got some work to do!”

Carlos Dunlap, father, distraught over arrest

In general, it is tough to gain an understanding of the type of family a student-athlete comes from unless you hear a recruiter or reporter rave about one. However, from what Carlos Dunlap, Sr. has said over the last few days about his son’s DUI arrest, one can get a pretty good idea of the upbringing the Florida Gators junior defensive end received. On Thursday, Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post spoke with Dunlap, Sr., who was quite vocal about how disappointed his family and his son are about the recent situation. For a player who had a flawless (trouble-wise) three years at Florida, Dunlap has been tormented with his mistake and its repercussions.

“How would anyone feel when they have the golden opportunity God has given them to be on such a platform, and then the situation is taken from you, whether it’s your own doing or not?” Dunlap, Sr. said. “Carlos is very, very disturbed about this, but this is something the lord has placed in his hands. I still can’t believe it. I’m still waiting for somebody to wake me up. He’s the one that kept me grounded all my life. He’s always been the one that wanted to tell everyone else what not to do, and lead by example. He’s not the kid you saw in the paper. He’s still a great kid. Somewhere, something went wrong. He’s very loving and caring, and concerned and worried about how people perceive him. This is something we have to work out in the court of law, but in the court of love, Carlos is very torn. But he will bounce back from this. We’re a strong, surviving family.”

On his son’s future with the Gators this year and beyond, Dunlap, Sr. had this to say:

“We don’t want to do anything to hurt the University of Florida football team. We love the team to death and we don’t want to be any distraction. We want to be a complement to the team, not a hindrance to the team. Our presence at the [SEC Championship] game will not be what the team needs to be focused on. We came to the University of Florida for a four-year education. He has another year in school to go. Everybody’s talking about the draft. We’re not talking about the draft. It’s never even been a thought. We as a family never even sat down and talked about leaving school. My son’s job this year was what they were talking about – finish the mission.”

The Gators may have to finish the mission of an undefeated season and third BCS National Championship in four years without perhaps their most explosive defensive player should head coach Urban Meyer‘s indefinite suspension stand past Saturday.

Meyer suspends Dunlap for SEC Championship

Florida Gators head coach Urban Meyer has decided to suspend junior defensive end Carlos Dunlap for the 2009 SEC Championship game after he was arrested Tuesday morning by Gainesville Police on charges of driving under the influence. Dunlap was found slumped over sleeping behind the wheel of his red Chrystler at a traffic light. Dunlap faces one second degree misdemeanor DUI charge and was released on his own recognizance without bond by Judge Mary Day Coker.

“Carlos obviously made a very poor decision,” Meyer said. “He’s not going to play, and I want to visit with him and his family first, and then go from there. Stunning is probably a good word [to describe how I felt when I found out]. Young guys make decisions all the time. This one’s a serious one.”

One of the Gators’ top defensive players, Dunlap was named the 2009 BCS National Championship game MVP and has been a powerful, athletic force on the defensive line in 2009. He is expected to leave school after this season and be the top Florida player taken in the 2010 NFL Draft.

“You think you’re in control and the next thing you know you’re in trouble,” Carlos Dunlap, Sr. said about his son’s arrest. “I am dumbfounded right now. He’s always been so anti-drug, anti-drinking. But it’s not what you do, it’s how you respond to what you do.”

Meyer said junior DE Justin Trattou will start in place of Dunlap while senior DE Jermaine Cunningham will stay on the field for more snaps than usual. Redshirt sophomore defensive tackle Jaye Howard will get playing time at end while redshirt junior DTs Lawrence Marsh and Terron Sanders hold down the inside of the line. “The good thing is we have a little bit of depth,” Meyer said.

Dunlap’s father says son likely out vs. Alabama

Carlos Dunlap, Sr., the father of Florida Gators junior defensive end Carlos Dunlap who was arrested and charged with DUI Tuesday morning, told the Orlando Sentinel that his son will likely miss the upcoming Southeastern Conference Championship game against the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday.

Dunlap, Sr. informed the Sentinel that he had already spoken with head coach Urban Meyer about the incident. Meyer told him that he must speak with administrators before making a final decision, but likely would not be able to play Dunlap in the Gators’ biggest game of the season up to this point. An official statement is expected to be made after Tuesday’s practice at approximately 6 p.m.

“I got the sense that he won’t be able to play,” Dunlap, Sr. said. “I asked him if there’s anything he can do — it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t ask — and he said he doesn’t know what he can do. We’re supposed to meet tonight.” He then expanded on his son’s recent mistake. “You think you’re in control and the next thing you know you’re in trouble. I am dumbfounded right now. He’s always been so anti-drug, anti-drinking. But it’s not what you do, it’s how you respond to what you do.”

BREAKING NEWS: Florida Gators junior DE Carlos Dunlap charged with DUI Tuesday morning

Florida Gators junior defensive end Carlos Dunlap, 20, was arrested at 3:25 a.m. Tuesday morning by Gainesville Police on charges of driving under the influence. Dunlap was found slumped over sleeping behind the wheel of his red Chrystler at a traffic light by Officer Robert Rogers, who was dispatched to the area after reports of reckless driving were sent in.

At a complete stop, Dunlap’s car sat still as the traffic light went through multiple cycles. Officers then went over to the car and turned off the ignition while the clutch was still in gear, according to the police report. Dunlap, once awoken, was “very groggy,” showed signs of impairment (bloodshot eyes, difficulty relaying basic information, alcohol on his breath), performed poorly in field sobriety tests and refused a breath test.

“They approached the car and found the suspect slumped over in the driver’s seat,” GPD spokesman Lt. Keith Kameg said. “He appeared to be asleep. The car’s windows were cracked so they attempted to wake him up. They talked to him and he would only open his eyes for a few seconds and then fall back asleep.”

Dunlap faces one second degree misdemeanor DUI charge and will remain in jail without bond until he faces an Alachua County judge. This charge is his first offense. Team spokesman Steve McClain said that the Gators are “aware of the incident and are currently gathering more information.” Head coach Urban Meyer is expected to address the situation after practice Tuesday evening.

UPDATE: Dunlap stood in front of Judge Mary Day Coker Tuesday morning, who told the future NFL first round draft pick that he cannot possess alcohol or drugs or drive a motor vehicle as his license has been revoked. Coker also admonished Dunlap for underage drinking and gave him no bond as this was his first offense. Dunlap’s only replies during the meeting were soft “Yes, ma’am”s. He was released on his own recognizance and will return to court at a later date.

OGGOA will have more on this breaking news story as it becomes available. For now, Florida fans can expect one of the Gators’ top defensive players and the 2009 BCS National Championship game MVP to be suspended for Saturday’s SEC Championship game against the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Another Vols player arrested under Kiffin

Permanently dismissing freshmen wide receiver Nu’Keese Richardson and cornerback Mike Edwards while awaiting word on safety Janzen Jackson – all of whom were arrested and charged with three counts of armed robbery last week – the Tennessee Volunteers had more legal issues come to light Tuesday. According to a report from WBIR in Knoxville, TN, freshman S Nyshier Oliver was arrested on Nov. 7 and charged with shoplifting from Dillard’s department store.

Oliver was spotted stealing a brown shirt worth approximately $110 from the the store located in West Town Mall. He was arrested and cited “just over five hours before the Vols were to play Memphis [Tigers] in the homecoming game at Neyland Stadium.”

Richardson, Edwards, Jackson and Oliver are all part of head coach Lane Kiffin‘s first recruiting class. Prior to his arrest, Jackson was suspended from a game earlier in the season for an infamous “violation of team rules.” Oliver will be arraigned on Nov. 23.
