Florida Gators head coach Dan Mullen has been looking far and wide in an effort to stock his new program with top talent, and he received an early Christmas present on Friday when five-star wide receiver Trevon Grimes (Fort Lauderdale, FL) announced his plans to transfer to Florida from the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Grimes (6-foot-3, 202 pounds) was rated as the No. 41 overall player in the Class of 2017 but only played in two games for Ohio State this season. He took a sabbatical from the program in October due to a family health issue and a transfer seemed inevitable.

“It was a pretty big decision for me to know that Miami is 30, 40 minutes away from my house, but I also know that my mom always told me, ‘This is about you, and you have to go where you feel comfortable,’” Grimes told the Sun-Sentinel. “I’ve talked to [UF co-offensive coordinator Billy] Gonzales about the receiver situation, about how many receivers they have. I feel like I fit in to that offense and that program very well.”

Grimes, who was previously teammates with Florida freshman quarterback Jake Allen at St. Thomas Aquianas High School, will likely have to sit out a season due to NCAA transfer rules unless he receives a waiver due to his familial situation.
