Two members of the Florida Gators‘ 2017 recruiting class signed financial aid agreements with the University of Florida on Thursday in hopes of enrolling in school early next month — four-star tight end Kemore Gamble and three-star cornerback Shawn Davis, both out of Miami.

Gamble (6-foot-4, 216 pounds) is presently the sixth-highest rated commitment for Florida in 2017, while Davis (5-foot-11, 190 pounds) is ranked as the 50th best player at his position nationally.

The point of signing the financial aid agreement is for a player to secure his scholarship offer with a program. It can theoretically be done on or after Aug. 1 of a prospect’s senior year, but many need to make sure they remain on track to graduate early as the school will not accept the agreement until being sure that is the case.

Earlier this month, three-star athlete Kadarius Toney (Eight Mile, AL) said he plans to join Florida as a quarterback, which would make him the second signal caller in the class alongside three-star QB Jake Allen (Fort Lauderdale, FL). He expressed this sentiment to AL.com and other outlets while preparing for an Alabama high school all-star game. Toney, a dual-threat star, finished the season with 3,521 total yards and 36 touchdowns, posting 601 total yards in the final game of his high school career.

Allen has previously said he had no issue with the Gators going after a second quarterback, though it was presumed he was talking about a player not already committed to the program. It will be interesting to see if Toney actually winds up playing quarterback for Florida and how that affects the competition at the position next season.

The Gators’ 2017 recruiting class remains underwhelming and in need of massive work. It stands at 14 members and is ranked No. 20 nationally in the 247Sports Composite, ninth in the SEC and behind both of Florida’s nonconference rivals in Florida State and Miami.
