Recruiting has been booming for the Florida Gators as of late, and though three-star linebacker David Reese (Farmington, MI) is not a highly-rated prospect, he is most certainly one that was sought after during his process.

Reese (6-foot-1, 235 pounds) gave the Gators a verbal commitment on Friday, just five days after head coach Jim McElwain and linebackers coach Randy Shannon visited the prospect. It was Shannon’s second visit to Reese this month; the first came the day Reese decommitted from Michigan and three days before the player traveled to Texas for an official visit. Reese also took an official visit to Florida in late November.

The Gators received Reese’s pledge over the Longhorns, Wolverines and other offers from schools like Louisville, Nebraska and TCU.

Linebacker is a position of need for Florida this cycle, and Reese is now the Gators’ second-highest rated prospect at the position behind four-star Jeremiah Moon (Birmingham, AL) and ahead of three-star Vosean Joseph (Miami, FL).

Reese has already been announced by the Gators as a mid-year enrollee as he has signed admissions papers with the program.
