The Florida Gators on Sunday accepted verbal commitments from two 2016 offensively players – three-star wide receiver Dre Massey (Mauldin, SC), a junior college transfer currently playing for Holmes Community College, and three-star offensive lineman Jawaan Taylor (Cocoa, FL).
Massey (6-foot, 185 pounds), who is rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 23 overall JUCO transfer by ESPN, chose Florida over more than a dozen offers, including Auburn and Oklahoma.
He is the second JUCO player set to join the Gators as four-star running back Mark Thompson (Wyncote, PGA) of Dodge City Community College will also suit up for Florida in 2016.
A former Miami commitment, Taylor (6-foot-5, 330 pounds) backed off his pledge to the Hurricanes on Saturday, just a week after visiting and three days after receiving an offer from the Gators. Auburn, Florida State and Ohio State are among other teams that offered him a scholarship.
“Blessed & honored to say that I am officially Committed to The University of Florida!” Taylor wrote on Twitter.
With Massey and Taylor in tow, Florida now has 25 commitments for 2016, five of which will enroll early and count back to 2015’s scholarship numbers. The Gators have seven four-star to 18 three-star pledges. Twelve of the commitments are on the offensive side of the ball.
