The 2013 NFL regular season continued this week with 32 former Florida Gators spread out over 20 teams.
Ten teams have multiple Florida players on their respective rosters including Miami (four); Washington (three); Baltimore, Chicago, Cincinnati, Denver, Jacksonville, N.Y. Giants and Pittsburgh (two).
Below are full game statistics for all 17 active players that participated this week along with select news updates on a number of Gators for the ninth week of the regular season.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
WR RILEY COOPER, Philadelphia Eagles: Started | five receptions [team-high] for 139 yards (targets: 6, long: 63), three touchdowns; lateral for 18 yards
» Cooper registered single-game career-highs in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns. His three touchdowns were as many as he had in the entire 2012 season.
» No matter how well he plays, Cooper will forever remain unpopular.
Check out how the rest of the Gators in the NFL performed…after the break!
S MATT ELAM, Baltimore Ravens*: Started | two solo tackles (one for loss)
WR DEONTE THOMPSON, Baltimore Ravens: Three receptions for 24 yards (targets: 4, long: 10)
LB JON BOSTIC, Chicago Bears*: Started | four tackles (three solo)
S MAJOR WRIGHT, Chicago Bears: Started | eight tackles (six solo) [team-highs]
DE CARLOS DUNLAP, Cincinnati Bengals: Started | two tackles
S REGGIE NELSON, Cincinnati Bengals: Started | six tackles (five solo)
CB JOE HADEN, Cleveland Browns: Started | six tackles (three solo), two pass defenses, interception
» The interception was Haden’s first since Nov. 25, 2012.
» Haden made headlines during the week when he was asked to provide an honest assessment about Sunday’s opponent, Baltimore, and why he thought Cleveland could snap its 11-game losing streak in the series between the two teams. “The Ravens aren’t the Ravens of old,” he said. Apparently, Baltimore’s management send the one-sentence comment from Haden to every member of the team via e-mail as a means of motivation despite the fact that it is a true statement.
» Haden was fined $7,875 for a late hit in Week 8.
LB JELANI JENKINS, Miami Dolphins*: Played as a reserve
C MIKE POUNCEY, Miami Dolphins: Started
K CALEB STURGIS, Miami Dolphins*: 2/3 on field goals (made: 36, 44 | miss: 34); 2/2 on extra points
» Sturgis kicked a game-tying field goal with 0:11 left in regulation. He has missed five of his last eight field goals, all in a four-game span. Three misses were from long range (57 yards, 51 yards, 46 yards [off the post], while a 39-yard attempt was blocked two Sundays ago. His 34-yard miss this week was a shank.
DT SHARRIF FLOYD, Minnesota Vikings*: Kick return for -1 yard
LB BRANDON SPIKES, New England Patriots: Started | three solo tackles
WR DAVID NELSON, New York Jets: Reception for 19 yards (targets: 3)
» Nelson was fined $7,875 by the NFL after committing an unnecessary roughness penalty last week. He lowered his shoulder into Adam “Pacman” Jones and apparently “cut” him a few times, actions to which Jones took great offense. “I’m going to find out where you live and come get you,” Jones said to Nelson, according to the New York Daily News. Nelson did not feel threatened. “I wouldn’t say it was a threat,” he said. “I’m not going to say he threatened me or anything like that.”
