No. 8 Florida Gators soccer saw a double-overtime duel against the No. 17 South Carolina Gamecocks come to as thrilling and dramatic a conclusion as possible Friday night at James G. Pressly Stadium in Gainesville, Florida.

Faced with an impending draw in the final seconds of the game, the Gators pulled out a shocking victory as junior midfielder Liz Slattery corralled a rebound in the box and fired it into the back of the net as time expired.

The goal was Slattery’s fourth of the season. It helped Florida improve to 12-3-1 (6-2-1 SEC) and maintain its spot at the top of the league’s leaderboard.

South Carolina’s Savannah McCaskill struck first with a 10-yard volley at 6′ before the Gators tied it up at 21′ with junior forward Savannah Jordan scoring a tap-in equalizer. The victory improved freshman goalkeeper Kaylan Marckese‘s record to 7-0-1 on the season and extended the team’s winning streak to four games with two left to play in the regular season.

Florida will wrap things up against Arkansas on Sunday at 6 p.m. (Senior Day for the Gators) and end the regular season at Georgia on Thursday, Oct. 29.
