Florida, Notre Dame exchange tweets of support

Outside of former head coach Urban Meyer, there has never been any substantial connection between the Florida Gators and Notre Dame Fighting Irish…until Friday when official Twitter accounts for both schools traded well wishes ahead of their respective football games this weekend.

It all started with the official University of Florida Twitter account, which sent a simple, innocuous message to the official University of Notre Dame account.

The Fighting Irish athletic program got the gist of the message and responded with a similar message of support to the Gators for their homecoming weekend game.

No. 5 Notre Dame, of course, faces UF’s in-state rival, the No. 2 Florida State Seminoles, on Saturday evening. Simultaneously, Florida will be hosting the Missouri Tigers at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Florida.

As one OnlyGators.com rightly wondered…

    Wow!
    Making nice with notre dame!?!
Maybe we should start playing our games on Thursday with the other JV schools.
Are you thinking that if they like us we will automatically be anointed Pre-season National Championship Runner-ups?

“Maybe we should start playing our games on Thursday with the other JV schools.” . . . bahaha. . . hilarious.

Making nice with Brian Kelly, next UF coach?

    • G2 says:

Everyone should post their personal Top 5 candidates, might be interesting to see what people are thinking. Thats assuming a loss tonight, if that happens the hot seat goes to Defcon 5.

      • Ken (CA) says:

just FYI – defcon 5 is lowest level, that is what muschamp supporter hangs out at, defcon 1 is prepare for imminent attack, that is where many of the rest of us are 🙂

      • Michael Jones says:

I am not necessarily suggesting these two, but the guy at Kansas State, Snyder, and the guy at Duke, Cutcliffe, are class acts and ambassadors of college football. Love watching them coach and love watching their teams play.

2 more examples of guys doing a whole lot more with a whole lot less. . . and doing it with class, integrity and humility. They are probably not young enough to take over the UF program, but they are great models for what we should be looking for and what any program would be proud to have as a head coach.

And for the record, I’m not one of those crazies that think we’re supposed to win the SEC–let alone, the Nat Champ–every year. But there’s a certain way I expect our Gators to play, and a certain way I expect our HC to act.

        • G2 says:

I see tonight’s game as a no lose proposition. We lose, then it seals the deal with Muschamp. We win, then just maybe we get on a roll and can win the East.
Do think Treon is the key to winning, don’t see Jeff getting it done anymore.

  4. Frank says:

Lord,I hope not! Hope we have Coach Muschamp until he retires in 2036,inferring he evolves into a great head coach in the next few years and turns Florida into a dynasty. Go Gators!!!

  5. ConnGator says:

Ug, still remember that Sugar Bowl loss to ND when we could not stop the run in the second half. Not sure if I can pull for them.

    • Ken (CA) says:

still scratching my head at the adjustments Doctor Lou made in that one that so befuddled us. After the first half I was so certain we were going to roll over them

      • Michael Jones says:

Ditto. I was at that game. Ruined an otherwise great trip to New Orleans, lol.

      • ike O'D says:

Too much Tomfoolery on Bourbon street and wore out by Bettis if i recall correctly(HBC was Alot more stringent on curfew in successive Sugar Bowls and so we Won the Important one against the Seminoles 5 years later…Love me some Bourbon st..Go Gators!!
