Losing for the second-straight week, the Florida Gators (4-2, 2-2 SEC) fell in both the USA Today and Associated Press Top 25 polls. Florida lost to the LSU Tigers (6-0, 4-0 SEC) 33-29 on Saturday night at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, FL.

The Gators dropped 10 and 8 spots in the respective polls and are the only two loss team that remains ranked as both defeats came against top 10 opponents. Florida’s new positions in the Top 25 are the lowest it has been ranked under head coach Urban Meyer.

I was actually expecting us to not be ranked, really don’t think we deserve the ranking to be honest with you.

  2. DCgator says:

Noticed this on a Scout message board. Take note of Exception 2:

“ARTICLE 2. a. When a backward pass or fumble is caught or recovered by any inbounds player, the ball continues in play (A.R. 7-2-2-I and II, A.R. 2-23-1-I). Rule 7-2 / snaPPinG and PassinG The Ball FR-101

    Exceptions:

    1. Rule 8-3-2-d-5 (Team A fumble on the try).
    2. On fourth down before a change of team possession, when a (Team A) fumble is caught or recovered by a (Team A) player other than the fumbler, the ball is dead. If the catch or recovery is beyond the spot of the fumble, the ball is returned to the spot of the fumble. If the catch or recovery is behind the spot of the fumble, the ball remains at the spot of the catch or recovery.”

    We got screwed.

It’s hard to be overly concerned with rankings, but we can beat USC and can still win the east, so hopefully things start clicking this week.

STEVE has to be demoted. we havent played well on offense since dan left we need a TRUE offensive coor.

  5. jazzygator88 says:

One play did not cost of the game. Poor offensive play calling. We have had problems on offense since Dan Mullen left. Last year we were able to win because we had a great defense and Tebow and we were able to win in spite of an inept OC. Addazio needs to step down as OC until he does nothing will change.

One thing became clear last night that was not so clear before. Our defense is average at best right now…that is it! They are not world beaters and not capable of stopping anyone right now when they need to. Giving up 33 points to the LSU offensive machine which we all know they are not….ridiculous. When we score 29 points, we should win the game…period! But hats off again to Addazio for trying to run the clock out at the end of the half and also leaving Brantley in at receiver when Burton was taking the snaps…you could see LSU was truly concerned that JB might break open and take a long pass to the house. I like it when they put Moody out wide too, same thing. Why don’t we just play with 10 guys so that we don’t mess the grass up as much on the field. We have some young guys on defense, we should still be better than we are but ok, a lot of them are young, but offense? That is BS! Veteran line, running backs, receivers redshirt junior QB. Adam, don’t watch, it only will be uglier when you can watch it over and over again. This week will be the the lowest point since the Zook years, Dan Mullin will come in with a far inferior group of players and beat us at home…what will the excuse be then? Still not the offensive coaching?

There actually is a website dedicated to Steve Addazio’s firing.

Now that the season is playing out, and we’re seeing what our competition to this point has been, the offense, especially the line deserves all the criticism it gets. Watching Nelson, Cooper, and Hernandez in the NFL tells me our receivers weren’t the limiting factor last year, soft and predictable play calling was.

We don’t need a yes man as the primary person with Meyer in the film room, we need a voice of reason. We need a guy who is willing to be straight with Meyer and communicate what the problems are. Meyer can’t afford to make the same mistakes that Bowden, Fulmer, and Richt made by putting their buddies in high ranking coordinator positions. The defense played pretty bad as well last night, but it was mistackles that were the primary culprit, and that can be fixed. I have faith the defense will perform better, I have little faith that Addazio and Meyer will drop the dumb play calls. Too much pride.

If Urb’s does not question Steve at this point, he is our of his mind.

  10. Adoozio says:

Adam have heard anything on Rainey’s status??

  11. Gatorgrad79 says:

What diff will that make if the coaching scheme is still to call the dive play or off tackle on 1st and 2nd down? Rainey is no bigger than Demps, and we do not have the bodies ( or toughness apparently) on the line to push back the opposing D-line, so that will not accomplish much. Plus they won’t leave Demmps/Moody or Rainey/Moody in the same backfield, so when he rotates them , the opposing D only has to key on one at a time ?! What’s up with that?

  12. Jesse C says:

    Dear Urban,

A couple things have been on my mind for a while and I’d like to share them with you…
First of all…LSU was lucky to win that game but we were really lucky to be in it.
I think those Orange Jerseys were really cool until we lost, so you can probably burn them.
Let’s face it… Pouncey is not an NFL center, he needs to move back to guard asap for both our sakes.
Will Hill is lost out there, please don’t let him back on the field.
Brantley is not letting plays develop except on third down. Can we pretend every down is third down?
I thought our offense was supposed to be about misdirection and mismatches, getting the ball in the hands of our playmakers. I don’t see any misdirection, we are predictable and everyone knows it.
I really like Moody as a person but it seems like he puts the ball on the ground every chance he gets.
The LB’s are not running to the ball… they wait for the ball carrier to come to them. We aren’t coaching to do that right? Oh and I miss Spikes.
How come our safety valve is always 3 yds behind the line of scrimmage? I thought the point was to get positive yardage.
I think we need to get an APB out on our extremely fast and athletic O. Hines, I think he might be missing.
Finallly, I’m really worried about your BFF Addazio… the offense is obviously anemic but he insists there is nothing wrong. I think he may need a CAT scan, there may be an underlying problem we can’t see. To play it safe, I think he needs a few months off starting immediately. I think we can manage without him. Then we can talk about forced retirement. Let me know how I can help with any of the above.

    Sincerely,
    A concerned gator
