The Florida Gators may not get too many opportunities to play on CBS this season, but a blowout of Tennessee coupled with a couple big wins for the now-No. 5 LSU Tigers has the network headed to Gainesville, Florida, on Saturday, Oct. 6 for the SEC on CBS Game of the Week. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET.

The cross-division rivalry game between Florida and LSU has always been contentious, but it certainly ratcheted up over the last two seasons after Hurricane Matthew postponed the 2016 meeting between the schools creating a major controversy that played out in the media. UF ultimately decided to not only play the scheduled home game but do so in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in a contest that was expected to go the Tigers’ way. Instead, the Gators triumphed 16-10 with a fourth-down, goal-line stand by their defense sealing the victory.

As a result of agreeing to play a home game in Baton Rouge, the teams and the Southeastern Conference agreed that Florida would host LSU in consecutive games. The Tigers beat the Gators 17-16 last year in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, and the hosts now have an opportunity to atone for that loss against a top-five program.

The last five meetings between Florida and LSU have been decided by a touchdown or less, though the Tigers are 4-1 in those contests. The Gators lead the all-time series 32-29-3, but the Bayou Bengals have won six of the last eight and nine of the last 14 meetings.

As CBS and the SEC do not typically announce TV schedules until two weeks ahead of games, Florida’s only other scheduled SEC on CBS game for 2018 is its annual rivalry showdown against Georgia on Oct. 27. It would be a surprise to see the Gators get another game scheduled unless as part of a double-header.
