As if the Florida Gators‘ devastating loss Saturday night to the Kentucky Wildcats was not bad enough, the program also lost one of its most talented players for the remainder of the 2018 season.

Florida sophomore cornerback Marco Wilson, who injured his left knee early in the first quarter in the 27-16 loss to Kentucky, will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL, his father Chad Wilson wrote on Twitter.

“[Thanks] for all the inquiries and concern,” the older Wilson wrote. “Unfortunately Marco has torn his ACL and will miss the remainder of the season.”

Marco Wilson was hurt early in the game Saturday when he planted his left foot while playing away from the ball and quickly crumbled to the ground. He was tended to on the field and eventually left the field under his own power, though he immediately went to the locker room and never returned.

“I appreciate all the support, in this situation I can’t sit around and ask why but I can get off my behind and work to be better than ever. I will be back 2019 #GoGators,” he wrote Sunday on Twitter.

Wilson started 11 games as a true freshman for Florida last season and was entrenched as the Gators’ starter once again in 2018. He was replaced in the game by a combination of freshman Trey Dean and junior Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, Florida’s starting nickle back.
