TWO BITS: Horschel wins; Murphy, Calathes out

1 » Former Florida Gators golfer Billy Horschel on Sunday earned his second PGA Tour victory, his first in one year and five months, after shooting -14 and winning the 2014 BMW Championship. Just last week, Horschel choked on the 18th hole during his final round at the 2014 Deutsche Bank Championship, finishing in a three-way tie for second behind Chris Kirk of Georgia. He did not make the same mistake on Sunday, shooting -1 over the final 12 holes to best two-time Masters Tournament winner Bubba Watson, also a UGA alum. Horschel collected $1.44 million on Sunday to go along with the $579,000 he banked last week, bringing his season-long earnings to nearly $3.4 million.

2 » Both former Gators competing in the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup have now been eliminated from the tournament along with their respective teams. Forward Erik Murphy went 1-4 with Finland, finishing last place in Group C with just six points. He averaged 6.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game, shooting 38.7 percent from the field, 27.3 percent from downtown and 63.6 percent from the charity stripe. Unlike Murphy, point guard Nick Calathes and Greece won Group B with a 5-0 record and advanced to the Round of 16. The Greeks fell 90-72 to Serbia and were knocked out of the event on Sunday. Calathes averaged 11.3 points, 3.7 boards and 2.3 assists during the international tournament, hitting 50.9 percent of his field goals, 37.5 percent of his threes and 46.2 percent of his free throws.

Adam, saying that a fellow Gator (Billy Horschel) “choked last week” was really a cheap shot, unprofessional, unkind, and un-Gator-like. You should be ashamed. If you had bothered to watch the tournament (rather than just hearing it from another news source,) you would have heard Mr. Horschel himself say he didn’t choke, he simply hit a bad shot (much like YOU do every day, with typos, incorrect grammar, and the lack or proof reading.) This is a Gator website, and we all, Mr. Horschel included, deserve better from you.

    • I watched it live. He choked on 18. I am unbiased here, so being “Gator-like” is not a priority.

Typos can occur, but my grammar is quite solid.

It was not a shot at Horschel. It was an obvious observation. If you have that many issues reading this site, may I suggest you go elsewhere.
