Gators fall in second USA Today, AP Top 25 polls

Just three days after defeating the Miami (OH) Redhawks 34-12 at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, FL, the Florida Gators fell three and four spots, respectively, in the latest USA Today and Associated Press Top 25 polls.

Ranked No. 3 in the USA Today Coaches’ poll going into the season, the Gators dropped three places and lost 115 voting points in the process. The AP voters had Florida ranked No. 4 in their preseason poll, but knocked them down four spots, taking away 172 points from their total.

Even though the Gators won their opener by 22 points, sloppy play as the result of over a dozen fumbled snaps and the inability to consistently move the ball on offense found them much criticism over the weekend. That, combined with the more refined play of some of their competitors, led to Florida’s fall in the rankings.

USA Today 1-10: Alabama (55), Ohio State (4), Boise State, Texas, TCU, Florida, Nebraska, Oregon, Iowa, Oklahoma

AP 1-10: Alabama (47), Ohio State (4), Boise State (8), TCU, Texas (1), Nebraska, Oregon, Florida, Iowa, Oklahoma

*Numbers in paranthesis represent first-place votes.

Good. Let everyone doubt us. Wonder what they’ll be saying after we kick USF’s a$$.

I’m good with #8. Doesn’t matter. Win your games and it takes care of itself. Don’t think anybody in Gator Nation is calling for us to go to AZ this year anyway.

Surprised to see Texas with a first place vote, they looked very weak against Rice (I took comfort in the failure of others last weekend.) Hopefully next week we’ll earn our top 10 ranking.

Expected worse. Can’t remember feeling like this in the last twenty years. Uhg….We simply have to take care of business this week and then again w/ the Wildcats. Bama won’t be pretty any way you look at it. We can’t afford to go into that game with a loss to a weak opponent. Here’s hoping Urban and Stevie-Wonder-How-to-Run-an-Offense can get their sh-t together.

I’ve never seen a team drop 4 places after a 22 point win, regardless of how sloppy the win was. EVER. But, I can’t argue with the result. Hopefully they got this out of their system and come ready to play this Saturday.

I agree with scooterp that you would be had pressed to find a similar drop when a team wins easily….that being said we probably should have started around 8-10 as we have many questions to answer

Remember, when we are the favorite to win the National Championship we perform mediocre ( ala Last season)……. However We are the most dangerous underdog in college football…. Lose to Florida State then play them again for the title and look what happened (1996)…. Remember the 2006 Championship we had to play “The Greatest football team EVER with the best quarterback Ever”…….. Keep believing Bama we have no chance to beat you….. I LOVE BEING THE UNDERDOG!!!!! GO GATORS!

Adam. I am not sure how to reply to a tweet, but my quesitons for Urban Meyer are:

1.) What are the specifics to grade out as a champion? does it vary by position?
2.) In his opinion how much does down and distance weigh in on the teams decision on an offensive play call
3.) Does Hit City still exist? If so, whom on the team is leading it this year?

    thanks

I am glad we are were we are, that way the bulls eye is not so big. Also, until Addozzio gets his head out of his ass, then we should be there.
