Early details emerge about Florida Gators’ 2010 Nike Pro Combat uniforms

OGGOA UPDATED: Florida Gators’ 2010 Nike Pro Combat uniforms

For the second straight year, the Florida Gators have been chosen by Nike as one of 10 schools which will wear special uniforms for at least one game during the 2010-11 season. Just like in 2009, Florida will be outfitted in the Nike Pro Combat System of Dress, which are uniforms “engineered to provide superior protection and durability, while utilizing advanced fabrics and tooling to reduce weight.”

The Gators’ 2009 uniforms were centered around the theme “Finish the Mission” and included Nike Vapor Trail 2.0 gloves with a Gator Head logo, a white helmet with a blue F, and a special blue jersey with unique graphics. Though the 2010 version will not officially be released until Wednesday at 10 a.m., OGGOA has uncovered some details about the uniform.

Florida’s jersey will feature an “alligator-skin motif used in the jersey numbers, pant, gloves and footwear inspired by [the] menacing Gator mascot.” It will be worn on Oct. 30 against Georgia at the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party in Jacksonville, FL, and perhaps on other occasions if the team so chooses.

Alabama (11/13), Boise State (9/6), Miami (FL) (11/20), Ohio State (11/27), Oregon State (12/4), Pittsburgh (11/26), Texas Christian (9/4), Virginia Tech (9/6) and West Virginia (11/26) are the other nine schools who will be participating in Nike’s campaign.

Florida will be represented Wednesday by former running back Errict Rhett, who led the Gators in rushing for four-straight seasons and played seven years in the NFL.

That is a crazy looking design…..I’m excited to see what the Gator’s jersey will look like, hopefully it’s not to over the top.

  2. Gatorbuc15 says:

Yeah, I agree! I can’t wait to see them either! From the description that Adam has given us, it sounds like it will look very BAD A$$!

  3. Dude says:

Man, I wish Nike wouldn’t select us for this. The uniforms of other teams that have been leaked look baaaad.

  4. npgator says:

That Virginia Tech jersey actually looks pretty cool. Nike makes nice looking stuff so it shouldn’t be too bad.

  5. cline says:

I prefer the traditional look, especially against UGA. GO GATORS

  6. Daniel M. says:

I’m pretty much tired of seeing the powerful marketing arm of Nike use Florida football as a mouthpiece. I know UF reaps untold sums from them and it’s just part of the system now. I’m okay with that. But I’m suffering from Nike Pro Combat System fatigue. Enough already. At the end of the day its a fricken uniform. A superior team can show up in the crappiest uni’s on earth and wallop an inferior team. Yes they look cool but the rub is that they will help a team play better. I’m calling BS on that. One bottle of water dumped over a hot player will negate the “reduced weight.” Enough!

    Am I alone on this?

  7. Relic says:

Anyone know if we are going to be able to purchase the gloves in the future ?

  8. brlgator says:

If I remember correctly several players came out after the first time we wore them and said how much they liked them. Plus if UF gets money for it who cares. I see no downside….

And as much as I hate to admit it, on espn’s commerical when Ingram puts his hands together and the Alabama “A” is seen its pretty cool

  9. Courtney says:

Nike always does awesome uni’s. They know Gator Nation is huge and would not outfit us with an ugly uniform (They want the money when we all buy it). Especially if the guys will be wearing it for the UGA game.

  10. Rich says:

I liked the last uniforms, especially the white helmet. I really don’t like the Gator Orange helmet and script Gators.

  11. Daniel M. says:

@brlgator, I have no problem with the uniforms per se. It’s the marketing onslaught that is getting old. Weren’t the white uni’s in the SECCG beatdown Nike Pro Combat? Technical performance aside, I didn’t like the white scheme at all. Maybe I’d feel differently if we won that game but since we got our asses handed to us I’ll continue to associate that color scheme with that game.

The helmets would look best with the chomp logo.

  12. joshgators says:

i’ve seen miami, ohio state and oregon state the uniforms are ugly

  13. joshgators says:

hey adam does florida keep their tradtional unis for the other 11 games

  14. Greg says:

    No Daniel,

They just kept the Pro Combat helmet. Everything else was standard all white uni.

The cameraman didn’t do the uni a lot of favors in highlighting the gator skin print.

  15. joshgators says:

adam i can say i’m not a fan of the pro combat gators

  16. rtm says:

Eh, these are stupid, but at least we get paid vast sums to wear them, which supports other athletic programs and even academics (when the athletic department gives money to the school). I’ll live with it for the paycheck, since the paycheck can do good things.

Georgia paid over 13,000 just for those black helmets. Chump change for the football program, sure, but money that other athletic programs could have surely used.

  17. Emily says:

any place to purchase items like last year? also any good images seen yet, i.e. side images, of the helmet?

  18. Relic says:

    Any news on those gloves?

  19. Relic – We’ll let you know, trust me.

  20. Emily says:

Shirts don’t go on sale until the end of October? I’ll be in the swamp Nov. 21 and I want to be rocking the current shirt, not last years. Seems like the shirts always come out when the year is over..
