Hauling in their second pledge in as many days, the Florida Gators‘ Class of 2017 grew by one more on Saturday when three-star defensive back Shawn Davis (Miami, FL) gave a verbal commitment to the program.

Davis, wearing a Miami shirt and Florida shorts, committed to the Gators over his hometown Hurricanes. He had written offers from both programs on a glass table with a pile of 24 other offers in the ground on the floor.

At 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds, Davis has long been a silent commitment for Florida. His primary recruiter, co-coordinator Randy Shannon, continues to have tremendous success out of the South Florida area.

Now the third defensive back in the Gators’ 2017 class, Davis joins four-stars Elijah Blades (Pasadena, CA) and Marco Wilson (Fort Lauderdale, FL) as Florida looks to rebuild its depth following what is expected to be a second straight year of secondary departures.

UF now has 16 commitments for 2017 and is back to an even 50-50 split between four-star and three-star prospects. Eleven of the 16 are from the state of Florida with six of those from the South Florida area.
