Whether the Florida Gators can reclaim the SEC East and return to the SEC Championship Game will depend on a variety of factors, but it all starts with what Florida is able to do on the field this season.

Facing a formidable schedule and tackling it with a new head coach in Dan Mullen, Florida will also be entering the 2018 campaign looking to make major changes on both sides of the ball.

The Gators’ offense is still looking to hit its stride for the first time this decade, while the defense is not only replacing a handful of starters but looking to find its footing under new defensive coordinator Todd Grantham.

In other words, the road to respectability will not be easy.

Florida’s win total over/under has been set at seven over paying out at -110 ($110 bet wins $100) and the under presently at -120 ($120 bet wins $100). As such, UF is projected to be in a battle with South Carolina to finish second in the SEC East behind Georgia. Make sure to review betting sites if you’re planning to put money on the Gators this year.

It has not been easy projecting Florida football games over the last few years, though there’s a lot of momentum for the Gators to at least win eight games in 2018. Florida should start out with a baseline of five wins with Charleston Southern, Kentucky, Colorado State, Vanderbilt and Idaho, meaning it only needs to win three of its remaining seven games to cash the over. Those come at Tennessee, at Mississippi State, vs. Missouri, vs. LSU, vs. Georgia in Jacksonville, vs. South Carolina and at Florida State.

Despite it being a road contest, the Gators topping the Vols should be an expectation this season; falling to the Dawgs, who played in the 2017 national title game, is fair to expect as well. Then all Florida would need to do is win two of its remaining five games to exceed the total and cash in.

So projecting out eight wins is a fair expectation for Florida in 2018, despite some of the difficulties it faces entering the season. As such, the over is a bit more likely than the under, though the odds show otherwise. Truth be told, the total is the correct number and may well hit with a push going to all bettors.
