The to-this-point underwhelming Class of 2019 received a boost on Monday as four-star cornerback Chester Kimbrough (New Orleans, LA) announced his verbal commitment to the Florida Gators.

Kimbrough (5-foot-11, 168 pounds) is a long-time Florida lean who was considered a commitment possibility at Friday Night Lights in July. Instead, he clearly waited to he was able to create a commitment video as he unveiled his decision for the Gators on Twitter.

The defensive back boasted a long offer sheet, including many Southeastern Conference programs, though he did not necessarily have a list of finalists other than Florida from which he chose. LSU came in late with an offer this summer, but Kimbrough had already been focused on UF over teams like Alabama, Georgia and Michigan.

Rated outside the top 300 nationally in the 247Sports Composite, Kimbrough stands as the sixth-highest rated commitment in the Gators’ 2019 class. He is also, somewhat surprisingly, just the second defensive back in the 12-man class, joining three-star Trent Whittemore (Gainesville, FL).

Kimbrough’s commitment moved Florida up four spots to No. 28 in the 247Sports team rankings, 11th in the SEC.
