Gators add commit No. 13 in OL Kelleher

One of the top engineering schools in the country and the opportunity to play for a major Southeastern Conference program was enough for three-star offensive lineman Nolan Kelleher (Mount Pleasant, SC), who made up his mind and verbally committed to the Florida Gators on Saturday.

Kelleher (6-foot-6, 303 pounds) chose Florida over Clemson but also had offers from Florida State, Georgia and Tennessee, among others. He also had heavy interest in Stanford but did not receive an official offer from the school.

He is currently rated as a four-star prospect by ESPN and is expected to pick up his fourth star from Rivals when its new rankings are released in nine days.

Currently an offensive tackle for Wando High School, Kelleher will be entering his fourth year as a starter at the position but is expected to move to guard on the collegiate level. He will likely be trained at all five positions while in Gainesville, FL.

Kelleher is the 13th member of the Gators’ 2014 recruiting class and the fourth offensive lineman currently committed to the program joining fellow three-stars Travaris Dorsey (Jacksonville, FL), Benjamin Knox (Deland, FL) and Joseph Paul (New Orleans, LA). Paul and Florida are ultimately expected to split ways, however.

Interesting how most of our O-lineman are 3 stars. I think that Coach Muschamp must feel that between our coaching and strength program, that he can take a 3 star and develop him into a 5 star. Or maybe some of these kids are just underrated by the recruiting and scouting services.

    • Ratings aren’t everything. The coaching staff evaluates players on its own.

I agree with that, Adam, and I love that our coaches are independent thinkers like that. Besides, who knows better what kind of player will fit into our system than Muschamp and his staff, right?

        GO GATORS!!!

They might no be everything, but they are significant.

The services are actually pretty accurate. 5 stars typically have more accomplished careers than 4 stars and so on.

        • Talent is talent. Sometimes it takes getting past high school and working with top-tier coaches to develop it. A five-star at 18 isn’t automatically a first-round pick at 21. And a three-star at 18 isn’t automatically a fifth-round pick or UDFA. A lot happens in the three years.

The stars give a good idea about potential. They’re useful just not a bible.

          • Crock says:

Oh course not, but typically a 5 stars chances of becoming a 1st round pick are much much better than a 3 stars.

Someone did a big analysis on the accuracy of star ratings. I’ll see if I can find it.

Think Kelleher may play center? Dontae Angus may be a guard too.
