Three-star tight end Zech Byrd (Millbrook, AL) committed to the Florida Gators on Saturday night, continuing Florida’s trend of picking up pledges from the Heart of Dixie.

He announced his pledge on Twitter: “It’s official #chomp chomp. Feels great.”

Byrd (6-foot-6, 235 pounds) is not highly rated in the 247Sports Composite but possesses offers from a number of top programs including Alabama, Michigan and Ole Miss. His recruitment did not begin in earnest until February when he burst onto the scene and immediately caught the attention of some top programs.

He becomes the Gators’ 14th commitment (seventh three-star) and second tight end pledge, joining four-star Kemore Gamble (Miami, FL).
