The defending National Champion Alabama Crimson Tide earned the No. 1 spot in the USA Today preseason coaches’ poll released Friday with the Florida Gators coming in just two slots behind at No. 3.

In between the two is the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes, which received four first-place votes; Alabama was awarded 55 of 59 possible votes.

Other Southeastern Conference teams ranked by USA Today this preseason include LSU (No. 16), Arkansas (No. 19), Georgia (No. 21) and Auburn (No. 23).

It is interesting after Bama & UF the SEC is not getting much love….I see in the AP they don’t even have any SEC teams after Bama, UF, LSU……premier football conference and only 2 teams in the top 15?

Well the SEC has the two best programs in the country, both ranked in the top 5. As far as other programs in the SEC, they are talented but unproven. Uga has a first year Qb. Ark has to improve their D. Lot of question marks for LSU. So those are programs with lots of unknown, and deserve their rankings. All those could move quickly up in the poll if they have some earl success.

I am actually very encouraged by this. most of the taking heads have them in the bottom half of the top ten. I do not know If I would rank them that high, but hey, who’s complaining. It definitely sets up a good game the first weekend in October.

I’m really surprise Ole Miss didn’t break the top 25. They laid the wood in the Cotton and now have Masoli

Very nice to see the Gators at number 3. Didn’t really expect them to be ranked that high. Thought they would be either 5th or 6th. But I ain’t complaining!
