Florida Gators junior quarterback Jeff Driskel, the incumbent and unquestioned starter heading into the 2013 season, underwent appendectomy surgery on Tuesday and may be sidelined for up to two weeks, the team announced.

“Jeff had acute appendicitis and fortunately the medical staff caught it very quickly,” head coach Will Muschamp said in a team release. “His surgery went well and how long he is out will be determined by how his body responds, which could be two weeks.”

Florida opens fall practice on Friday.

Driskel led the Gators to an 11-2 record (7-1 SEC) as a first-year starter in 2012.

He completed 63.7 percent of his passes for 1,646 yards and threw for 12 touchdowns while coughing up five interceptions. Driskel was also proficient with his legs, netting 408 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

Back-up quarterback has been a position of concern for Florida all offseason. Redshirt junior Tyler Murphy, who has not taking a meaningful snap behind center in his career, is currently the Gators’ second-stringer. Redshirt freshman Skyler Mornhinweg and freshman Max Staver are the only other scholarship signal callers on the roster.

We’ll be fine. A good chance for Murphy and the boys to get some quality reps. I hope Jeff has a healthy and speedy recovery!

    GO GATORS!!!

That sucks but as Michael said, good reps for the backup folk.
