The Florida Gators ever-changing 2015 recruiting class added a member on Tuesday when three-star wide receiver Kalif Jackson (Neptune Beach, FL), a Friday Night Lights attendee, made his commitment official.
Jackson (6-foot-4, 195 pounds) received a scholarship offer from the Gators on Tuesday and accepted it almost immediately. He chose Florida over a previously-stated top five of Duke, Georgia Tech, Missouri, Rutgers and Vanderbilt.
“Just received an offer from the University of Florida … Moral of the story is hardwork pays,” Jackson tweeted at 12:04 p.m. Just over seven hours later, he added: “I also just committed to the University of Florida.”
“[He] has all of the physical tools in the world to be a solid contributor as a big bodied receiver,” wrote Mike Singer of FlaVarsity.com on June 24 ($). “Jackson made several jaw-dropping catches on the field at the IMG [7v7 National Championship] tournament.”
Jackson also has the frame to play tight end, though he would need to gain some weight to be a better fit for the position.
The Gators have lost four commitments in the last 10 days but seen three players pledge to attend Florida in the month of July, including four-stars linebacker Jerome Baker (Cleveland, OH) and offensive lineman George Brown, Jr. (Cincinnati, OH).
Jackson joins four-star quarterback Sheriron Jones (Moreno Valley, CA), three-star WR Derrick Dillon (Franklinton, LA) and three-star tight end Camrin Knight (Tallahassee, FL) as offensive skill players currently committed to Florida.
His commitment was first reported by InsidetheGators.com‘s Blake Alderman.
Adam, most of the time what are sources of that cause these kids to decommit? Is it just teenage kids? Depth? Or do schools change their minds?
Depth, playing time, coaching concerns, scheme fits and concerns, other thing$.
I see what you did there 🙂 – and agree.
Some kids use schools as “placeholders” as well until they can receive a better, more enticing offer.
Wow, disappointing that UF would be considered a ”placeholder” by any prospect until they got a better offer. We really need a kickass year and need to sneak up some people and make some noise or this trend in recruiting will continue….
and yes, schools do change their minds. There are often scholarships given contingent on player x committing or not. Schools hedge their bets assuming they may get some stud player but picking up the solid 3 star developmental kid and letting the kid know the offer is contingent on whether player x commits or not
Adam, if you had to guess, how many schools would you say participate on other thing$? Just a percentage on your guess. I say they all do, but that’s just me.
None directly. There is stuff that goes on at most schools, some more than others. Was just listing it as a contributing factor on occasion.
Don’t know if I believe this but its interesting and since your on the subject…..http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2014/4/10/5594348/college-football-bag-man-interview
Gosh, as a Gator I am so impressed. We lose 4 and 5 star recruits, but get 3 star recruits.
Yep, Will has it all figured out.
So we lose 3 DB’s (a position we are stacked at) and swap Jackson for Payton. Not ideal but livable.
Players we lost minus one were three star prospects, glad to see you’ve got it all figured out.
This kid looks like he uses his height very well and good hands too.
