The seven-day recruiting boon for the Florida Gators continued Monday when three-star wide receiver Tyquan Thornton (Miami, FL) committed to the program. He is the ninth high school prospect to pledge to Florida in the last seven days and seventh new member of the Gators’ 2018 class.
Thornton (6-foot-3, 165 pounds) was previously committed to Baylor and was believed to be deciding between Florida and Miami with Georgia also in the mix for his services. The Booker T. Washington student is not highly rated, though he is well regarded as a prospect. The Hurricanes are expected to stay active in an attempt to flip Thornton from the Gators.
Thornton is the second-lowest rated of Florida’s 14 commitments for 2018 and eighth prospect with a three-star ranking. An interesting note is that the Gators acquired their two highest (23, 103) and two lowest (696, 819) rated pledges over the last seven days.
Florida now has the nation’s 10th ranked class nationally (third in the SEC) per the 247Sports Team Rankings just a week after being ranked 61st nationally.
