The Florida Gators football program concluded a recruiting week for the ages on Sunday after learning four-star 2018 wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase (Metairie, LA) had committed to join the program next season.
“Blessing Blessing !! COMMITTED #Allbite18,” he tweeted.
Chase (6-foot-1, 195 pounds), the nation’s 106th best player per the 247Sports Composite, is the program’s eighth commitment since the start of the week and sixth new member of the Class of 2018. He was previously believed to be choosing between TCU and LSU — with a lean toward the Horned Frogs — but surprised with his commitment to the Gators just two days after visiting Gainesville, Florida, for Friday Night Lights.
Florida, which had been struggling to build its 2018 class, has now obtained its two highest-rated commitments in as many days as Chase joins five-star quarterback Matt Corral (Long Beach, CA), the No. 23 player in the country who committed to UF on Saturday night. In fact, four of UF’s five highest-rated pledges were secured this week.
The Gators, which recently had the nation’s 61st-best class per the 247Sports Team Rankings, are now 11th nationally with six four-star prospects and 13 overall commitments.
