If you thought the Florida Gators’ roster was done taking hits this offseason, well, you would be mistaken. Freshman linebacker David Reese will reportedly miss the entire season after tearing his Achilles, according to 247Sports and GatorsTerritory, a Rivals affiliate.

Reese, who shares a name but is unrelated to senior linebacker David Reese II, was expected to serve in a reserve role this season at the Buck position. He took a redshirt in 2018 after making appearances in just two games but was expected to be a major contributor for the Gators in 2020; he will now have to begin his third year at Florida with almost no playing experience.

Graduate transfer Jonathan Greenard should start at Buck for the Gators this season with redshirt junior Jeremiah Moon likely to at least begin the campaign as his backup at the position. Moon is coming off a foot injury that sidelined him for the spring practice session.

With Reese now out for the year, the depth beyond Moon certainly takes a hit. Head coach Dan Mullen and defensive coordinator Todd Grantham will certainly look to work that out during fall practice, which begins one week early this season due to Florida moving up its first game to Saturday, Aug. 24.
