Top 2017 QB Jake Allen commits to Florida Gators

Four-star quarterback Jake Allen (Fort Lauderdale, FL), one of the top signal callers in the Class of 2017, announced his commitment to the Florida Gators on Wednesday.

“After talking it over with my family and my coaches, I have decided to commit to THE University of Florida! #Swamp17,” he wrote on Twitter.

The first incoming freshman quarterback to make a pledge to the Gators under new head coach Jim McElwain, Allen (6-foot-3, 191 pounds) is highly regarded nationally. He is ranked No. 248 overall in the 247Sports Composite but is expected to shoot up the charts with a strong junior campaign.

“I like the offense that [offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier] runs and it’s just the way it felt when I was up there on my visit the last time – it just felt like family and I was comfortable there,” Allen told ESPN.com’s Derek Tyson. “I felt ready – I feel like it’s time to pull the trigger and get started on this recruiting class.”

The St. Thomas Aquinas High School product committed to Florida over offers from Miami and NC State, among other programs.

Allen told Tyson that while his recruitment is over – he cannot sign a National Letter of Intent for 18 months, however – the process is just beginning for him.

“I’m going to help recruit the best guys in the country,” he said. “I’m not being cocky or anything, but I know guys want to play with me so I’m going to get the top guys in the country to come play with me — on both sides of the ball.”

Florida currently has two starting-caliber quarterbacks enrolled in redshirt freshman Will Grier and sophomore Treon Harris; the duo are battling for the gig in 2015. The Gators also have redshirt senior Josh Grady and redshirt sophomore Luke Del Rio enrolled; Grady will be gone before Allen enrolls and Del Rio is not expected to be a starter at UF.

The Gators did not obtain a quarterback commitment in 2015 and do not have one pledged to join the program in 2016 either, as of press time. Florida’s only other commit for 2017 is three-star wide receiver Lavarus Tigner (Deerfield Beach, FL).

Since this guy is a 4 star QB I notice that all of the 3 star whiners have nothing to say. Isn’t that sadly predictable? Only comment when you have something to whine or bitch about? lol

Great job, Coach Mac!! GO GATORS!!!!

Love the way this kid talks. Passion, commitment, all in. Reminds me of how when Will Grier made a decision, it was a FINAL decision.

    GO GATORS!!!

This could be huge for us. The guy has nice athleticism, arm strength and accuracy. Sounds like he is gonna start recruiting for us day one.

Don’t go overboard. It’s been five years since UF had a decent quarterback, and they’ve been more highly regarded than this guy. Here’s proof about the “next Peyton Manning…” http://205.132.151.20/07/23/2010/qb-commit-jeff-driskel-shines-at-elite-11-camp/

P.S. The laast comment from Hagerty on the above article was dead on. He knew something that all the so-called “experts’ were blind to.
