Adding to their still-growing Class of 2018, the Florida Gators received a public verbal commitment from three-star defensive end Taylor Upshaw (Bradenton, FL) on Saturday.

Upshaw (6-foot-5, 240 pounds), who told 247Sports that he has been a Florida silent commit for a few weeks, is excited to be playing close to home. “I will be committing to… The University of Florida!!! #ChompChomp,” he wrote on Twitter.

He pledged to UF despite offers from over two dozen programs including Clemson, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and Tennessee, though it’s unknown how many of those offers were commitable.

Upshaw is the Gators’ eighth commitment in their underwhelming 2018 class, which includes five three-star prospects and is ranked 28nd nationally and sixth in the SEC. In addition to conference programs, Miami (1), and Florida State (7) are both ranked well ahead of Florida.

Meanwhile, the Gators’ impressive Class of 2019 is ranked No. 1 nationally with eight commitments, including six four-star pledges — all from the state of Florida.
