The Florida Gators will play a true nonconference road game outside the state of Florida … in 2029. Florida announced Wednesday that it has agreed to a home-and-home series with the Colorado Buffaloes that will be held in consecutive seasons one decade from now.

The Gators will host the Buffaloes on Sept. 9, 2028, with Florida travelling to Colorado the following year on Sept. 8, 2029. That latter game will mark the Gators’ first true nonconference road game outside the state of Florida since Sept. 21, 1991 (at Syracuse).

These will likely be the first games between UF and CU as the programs have not met previously and the SEC does not often play bowl games against the Pac-12.

Gators athletic director Scott Stricklin recently hinted that the football program was working on some future nonconference games against big-time programs. Florida is reportedly attempting to link up with Texas for a home-and-home series from 2030-31, according to Kirk Bohls of the Austin-American Statesman.

UF will open the 2019 season against Miami in a neutral-site game in Orlando on Aug. 24. Outside of the annual series against Florida State, the Colorado home-and-home is the only nonconference game against a Power Five program on Florida’s schedule through 2027.
