Florida Gators basketball was set to have a rather ho-hum roster shake-up this offseason with an unheralded two-man recruiting class and no incoming transfers at this time. On Sunday, Florida head coach Mike White got a nice boost to next season’s roster when three-star center Gorjok Gak (Bradenton, FL) announced he had committed to the program.

Update: UF officially announced the signing on Tuesday.

Gak, originally committed to Oklahoma State but let out of his letter of intent following the departure of Travis Ford, reopened his recruitment and wound up with a final two of UF and Arizona State. Following a visit to Gainesville, Florida, last weekend, Gak made up his mind and announced his decision on Sunday.

“I’m blessed to say that I am committing to the University Of Florida,” he wrote on Twitter. “it’s been a long & rugged process but couldn’t have done it without my family & basketball family. It’s a good day to be a GATOR!!”

At 6-foot-11 and 205 pounds, Gak is ranked as the 190th best player in the nation, according to the 247Sports Composite. He averaged 13.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per game for Victory Rock Prep School last season.

In joining the Gators, Gak would be the fourth player with a listed height of 6-foot-9 or taller on the roster, joining redshirt sophomore John Egbunu, junior Schuyler Rimmer and freshman Kevarrius Hayes.

He is also the third member of Florida’s 2016 class, joining four-star guard Eric Hester and three-star forward Dontay Bassett, both out of Oldsmar Christian School in Oldsmar, Florida.

The Australian-born Gak entered the United States in 2014 in order to pursue a basketball career. In addition to UF, ASU and OSU, UConn, Maryland, Minnesota, Tennessee and West Virginia had all been interested in his services at one time or another.
