Florida trolls LSU with savage tweet about Tigers’ canceled spring game

Ownage came Saturday night in the form of a two-word, two-emoji tweet sent by the Florida Gators‘ official football account on Twitter.

The LSU Tigers canceled their spring game due to inclement weather, and Florida took advantage of the opening with a solid jab — obviously showing some Southern respect when it could’ve delivered an uppercut.

If you’re reading this and in desperate need of context, Hurricane Matthew forced the Gators to postpone their game against the Tigers during the 2016 season. LSU attempted to paint the decision as cowardice on Florida’s part and showed a complete lack of empathy for an entire state facing a deadly storm. The Tigers seemingly put one roadblock up after another when it came to rescheduling the game, going so far as to basically rule out the game being played unless the Gators gave up their home game and agreed to play on the road in Tiger Stadium.

An LSU-favored compromise was eventually reached with Florida agreeing to go on the road for the game in exchange for the Tigers playing at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in back-to-back seasons. The Gators then went on to win 16-10 on Nov. 19, 2016, earning that victory with an epic goal line stand that will go down in program history. It resulted in an incredible celebration in the locker room and Gators play-by-play man Mick Hubert losing his damn mind.

β€œHow about that?! … Played team on the road for a home game and won the SEC East, didn’t we?!” head coach Jim McElwain said live on TV after the game. β€œThey got some pride. They were called out. We came on the road and won a game. That’s the way it should be. … The incident that happened back then, there were lives involved. This was a game. And we won.”

He later added: “The way I look at it, they got what they deserved. It should have been worse.”

The ultimate result of LSU’s grandstanding? A loss, consecutive games in Gainesville, Florida, and an epic social media burn from its cross-division rivals.
