Redshirt junior defensive end Justus Reed announced Thursday that he will leave the Florida Gators and seek a new opportunity elsewhere.

“First and foremost, I’d like to thank the University of Florida for everything that it has done for me since I’ve been here,” wrote Reed on his Twitter account. “I’d like to thank coach [Will] Muschamp for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to come here, and I’d also like to thank coach [Jim McElwain] and his coaching staff for everything that they have done for me since they’ve been here.”

Reed said he discussed the decision with his family and finds it in his best interest to leave the Gators. “Thank you GatorNation you’ve bee nothing but great,” he concluded.

Having appeared in just 11 games over three active seasons at Florida, Reed amassed nine tackles (two for loss). He redshirted in 2014 and played in just two games last season while dealing with a variety of injuries.

The Gators have not confirmed Reed’s transfer nor released any statements at this time.
