With practice about to wrap up and the spring game coming on Saturday, the Florida Gators got some good news for the 2020 season over the last few days when they bolstered their upcoming recruiting class with a pair of commitments, one a familiar face.
Three-star quarterback Anthony Richardson (Gainesville, FL) recommitted to the Gators on Saturday, just two weeks after naming Florida his leader. He was previously committed to UF but decommitted in February one day before being offered by Georgia. Richardson has since also picked up a Michigan offer.
It is unclear why exactly Richardson (6-foot-4, 222 pounds) decommitted in the first place, but despite his star rating, he certainly has the size and athletic ability that Mullen likes in quarterbacks. Florida has seen some of its targets at the position commit elsewhere over the last few months as it looked like UF wanted to bring two into its Class of 2020.
The positive news continued for the Gators on Sunday when four-star cornerback Avery Helm (Missouri City, TX) committed to Florida. Helm (6-foot-2, 170 pounds), the No. 304 player in the nation, per the 247Sports Composite, holds an impressive offer sheet from some of the best programs in the nation and committed one month after spending a few days at UF on a visit.
The Gators’ 2020 class is ranked fifth in the nation and third in the SEC at this point with seven of Florida’s nine committed rated as four-star prospects, including four among the top 200 players in the nation.
