Florida Gators end 2013-14 season ranked No. 3

The Florida Gators (36-3) were bumped down to No. 3 in the final 2013-14 edition of the USA Today Coaches’ Poll after falling on Saturday to the eventual national champion and new No. 1-ranked Connecticut Huskies (32-8) in the Final Four of the 2014 NCAA Tournament at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX.

UF entered the tournament as the No. 1 team in the country and earned the event’s top overall seed, advancing to the Final Four for the first time since 2007 but falling two wins short of the national championship. UConn earned its second victory over Florida this season on the way to its title.

Kentucky (29-11) checked at No. 2 – and even received a first-place vote from the coaches – after falling 60-54 in the title game. The Gators beat the Wildcats three times with Florida winning those games by an average of 10 points.

The Gators at 36-3 finished the 2013-14 season with the best record in program history. Florida also swept the Southeastern Conference Championships, winning the regular-season title for the seventh time and tournament crown for the fourth time.

UF finished 9-3 against teams in the final top 25.

  1. cline says:

Top 3 is fitting. It was a great season and this team was great, but that doesn’t always guarantee a title. GO GATORS!

  2. SW FL Joe says:

So who was the moron that voted UK number 1?

  3. Ken (CA) says:

shows the inanity of the polls. ranked behind a team that beat 3 times in the season just because they were on other side of bracket. UF should be 2 and UK 3 not just based on final 4 sustainability

  4. gatorboi352 says:

    L.O.L.

So the team that we beat 3 times, once in the conference championship, finishes ranked above us even though 6 games ago they were unranked. All because they made it one single game further than us.

    • Nathaniel says:

I don’t like it either, but by that logic, shouldn’t Louisville be your national champion?

      • Tractorr says:

That is not logic because no one said we should be the national champs. We should be ranked above Kentucky they didn’t have to play us to get to the championship game, they still lost to us three times, and they still have 11 losses overall while we still only have 3. It would be different if we had lost in an early round because then the argument could be made that they made up ground on us but they lost to the same team we did only one round later because they didn’t have to play us.

  5. one says:

Kentucky didn’t lead once vs UConn. And their wins in the NCAA tourney while exciting, weren’t by big margins. So that’s the 2nd best team in the country?

  6. Sharon Milner says:

fINAL RANKINGS ARE BASED ON THE ncaa TOURNAMENT AND NOT A SEASON OF WORK.

Still third in the country is quite good.

It will NEVER be a perfect system.

  7. G8RFN says:

    Horse Crap

  8. Timmy T says:

Ranked number 1 in my heart. That’s all that matters.
